Widening Interstate 71 to Columbus: Whatever happened to ...?

A much-discussed third lane in each direction on I-71 is now planned for Morrow County -- the last stretch of the state's main north-south artery that has not been widened. Traffic jams on that narrower portion of the interstate are common, especially during holidays, Ohio State football games and summer weekends.
The $161 million construction project covering 25 miles of roadway in each direction in the county is to start later this year or in early 2012 and is expected to take about five years to fully complete, according to ODOT spokeswoman Nancy Burton.
