Has anyone driven through this part of I-71 since Monday? People in this city are beyond stupid!!! People were freaking out about the closure! They were unsure of what lane to be in since the right two lanes take you down the ramp to 17th Avenue and then back up again, and because of that, a lot of people were trying to squeeze into the single lane that still used the freeway. Sorry to rant and complain, but its just ridiculous. That is free entertainment that really can't be beat in this city!!!

I drive that way every day... it really amuses me that although the city has posted what I believe to be sufficient signage indicating that yes, all three lanes are still 71, people continue to freak out and pull some really dumb sh*t to get into the left lane. I don't know if I'd go so far as to say that people in this city are "beyond stupid," but you'd think by Thursday they'd have figured it out...

They ran it in the Dispatch, they have signs, it's not hard. Wonderful entertainment, though not good for the blood pressure when you hit gridlock at 2pm.

I just saw that for the first time last night. I'm assuming you have to stop at 17th? If so, then we made the right move by getting over into the one lane that keeps going. If the two lanes don't have to stop though, there's nothing that indicates that. I don't think that's "stupidity" on the drivers' part, just insufficient signage.

Nope, no stopping if you go down the ramp and no turns, the whole intersection is closed off. If you need to exit at 5th, I'd recommend going down because it's tough to get over for the exit once everyone joins back up together close to the 11th Ave exit.
Glad to know you made it back OK :)

And see, I thought about that as we approached 17th…and wondered "would they really close off 17th to through traffic? I used to use 17th all the time to get to work & wasn't sure they'd just close off that whole community down there" and by that time we were right there and thought "this a lot to contemplate at 70 mph…let's take the left lane".
Seriously though, from a design standpoint, if people don't understand a sign, it's easy to say the intended audience is stupid, but more likely there's an information design issue.
As an aside, we were going to ride our bikes to Cleveland last night & couldn't decide whether to head out at 5 or wait out the storm first. I'm glad we chose the 3rd option and rented a car! From the pictures, that storm was insane!

They close 17th every year for the State Fair.
I posted about this construction a few days ago. I was worried about the impact it will have on neighborhood businesses.

Thank you! I thought I was the only one whose blood pressure was effected by this. The signs are not difficult to understand ... It is merely stupid people!
I drive that route to and from work. Monday morning and afternoon was rough as no one knew what the hell was going on. The week has seemed to improve each day but there is still that idiot everyday that gets right up to the point of the 17th Ave ramp and freaks out. He immediately brakes to a complete stop and turns his left blinker on ... meanwhile he is sitting right under the damn sign that says 71 with a big fat effing arrow forward!
I think my blood pressure rose a little bit just writing this post and thinking about the drive this afternoon.

You mean you guys didn't read the Dispatch or the blogs or the signs didn't immediately make sense? lol.

Yeah, I had to drive up there to attend an event at the Max & Erma's HQ on Monday Morning. I ended up getting off at 11th and taking Cleveland up to Morse Road. A bit slow going, but much less stressful.
