I am putting this question out to the very knowledgeable CU community:
Does anyone have any resources/knowledge/helpful info about replacing a high voltage hybrid car battery (specifically for an 05 Pruis)?
We recently took ours to Toyota Direct on Morse when all the warning lights came on last week. Its NEVER been in the shop and has 108k miles on it. They hooked it upto the diagnostic tester and stated there was nothing wrong with it, charged us $95 and sent us on our way.
The lights went away, but then 2-3 days later came back on. The car was running (seemingly) fine the whole time this has been happening. We didn't really drive it all weekend and Monday the BF tried to drive it to work. It wouldnt go above 30 MPH and he went straight to Toyota Direct again.
I talked to them later today to get an updated and they stated that the VCU/ECU (not sure which it was) was broken and the hybrid battery was giving a low voltage reading. Basically the onboard computer killed the hybrid battery, and its going to cost us $4000 to fix.
Parts of this experience ring sketchy to me, but the car is worth fixing. If anyone in the CU community has any ideas about how to get the battery for cheaper (either cheaper new or a used, low miles one) please let me know!
