I have some sort of mold on the leaves of my zucchini plants, and front end rot. I guess no zucchini this year, but the plants are flowering like a mother...

It's been a weird gardening year for me. I usually have the worst time with cucumbers, yet those were super productive this year. For some reason I was thinking they wouldn't do well with the heat, but they were fine.

It sure looks like it to me.
I would not use the same container, it's my understanding that fusarium is a soil-borne pathogen, which can live in the soil for long periods of time, so I would start anew with a new container, new soil, etc.
It's also important to clean up all the dead plant material, I would not compost it, throw is away or burn it.
Good Luck! Thanks Porky! I've got a new container and new soil, and have trashed all the plant material, soil. I just hope that it isn't air-borne cuz I've got the old containers stored about 10 feet away. :o/

Yesterday I took a trash can out to the garden, and stuffed it with vines. It's like pulling a green carpet off of the gardens.
One of them is bindweed:
http://www.tlehcs.com/question%20of%20the%20week/archive%20questions/Weeds/controlling%20vine%20weeds.htmBut by far my biggest problem is honeyvine milkweed

But those butterflies sure love the Milkweed :)

They like the flowers, but they do not lay eggs on this kind of milkweed. The leaves never have insect holes. It is not an erect plant, but a strangling vine. The seeds and pods do look exactly like milkweed.

Oh okay I thought Milkweed was Milkweed, thanks for the clarification.
On another note, I expected the Habanero's to be hotter this year but Owww Weee!!! They are on FIRE! I made batch of jam on Sunday and of course used gloves, opened window etc. but the fumes were still so hot they burned my respiratory system. I've not had a chance to try the jam yet but I have a feeling it's gonna be a hot one this year.

I recently snagged a pic of one of the plants from the water garden...

Either this week or next will be getting the fall garden in. I have a good chunk of space from the onion bed, the lettuce, peas and where the zukes died. Till that up then put in more lettuce, green beans, zukes and cukes probably.

I put in some onion sets about a week and a half ago. I should re-try the cukes, mine fizzled this year.

Still nearly sixty days until first frost date. Almost anything short of winter squash or leeks or sweets can go in still. My only worry is more heat on cool loving seedlings. Might do lettuce every 2 weeks to ensure success.

I was just gonna say that's how we do lettuce this time of year, has worked like a charm in the past.
I will probably put in some broccoli and maybe cauliflower also.
What about beets anyone have success with beets as a fall crop?Posted 9 months ago # -
They are a fine fall crop, my wife just reseeded her beets( I dislike them), just the other day. Frost tolerant, can be harvested nearly any size.

The damn squash bugs got both my zucchini and acorns :-( Next year I need to cover the squash I think. My cherry tomatoes are going gangbuster, but my big tomatoes are just not producing. Peppers are coming and my eggplant is the happiest thing in the garden.
I'm going to put in more lettuce and some beans I think. Mom looked at the long term forecast and they are saying it's going to be a very late frost so I think we're in for a nice long fall growing season.

Tilled up some unused spots and put in some lettuce, yellow squash, cukes, zucchini, green beans, arugula and an assortment of asian cabbages. Try to keep the harvest going a few more months. I am at the pinch point of freezer space right now due to my peach 5 peck extravaganza. Need to get the canner out now that we have a cooler spell.

Got me feeling like a slacker Derm, I hope to take advantage of the cooler weather myself and plant up some lettuces, and a few others this weekend.
I harvested some killer tomatoes yesterday, so many I ended up taking a few to work to share. I can't wait to hear what folks thought of them.

This morning's picking...
Some of the heirloom Mexican and some other orange variety that we tried for the first year, they were okay, probably would not grow them again.

Some of the hotter than hot habanero's

And a couple of heirloom eggplant that we tried new for the first time this year, Rosa Bianca, they are awesome!

This year I have lemon pepper:

I think I'll make a lemon-pepper seasoning, but instead of black pepper, I'll use this lemon pepper - the heat is similar to black pepper - but no dark flecks in the final product. And since "lemon" seasonings taste like harsh manufactured citric acid to me, I'll dice and dry lemon peel.

Meanwhile, up north, we are close to getting permission to plant trees in Area N on the north side of Home Road along O'Shaughnessy. I collected 100+ fresh buckeyes from private property, and I'm close to getting a permit to collect acorns in Duranceaux Park.
I wonder who in town can make a squirrel fursuit.

Buckeyes need a chill period before they will sprout. I have tried to get them ready in my fridge or in my garage to no avail. The best transplants I have were the ones the squirrels buried in my kitchen garden. Good Luck with them, they have not cooperated with me for germination.
