If we go back in time far enough, our ancestors didn't have central air or even those mutilation machines they referred to in the 40's, 50's and 60's as 'electric fans.'
The majority of our ancestors did more physical labor than we do now and they were more inclined to keep their bodies covered in clothing, and less inclined to shower daily.
Ok, so summers may be hotter now, but not THAT much hotter. So, what's up? Did our ancestors simply have a heartier mentality when it comes to enduring the heat?
A couple of weeks ago, I slept in front of an electric fan. "Why don't you sleep in the basement?" was the question that lingered for a few minutes before I fell asleep.
That night, it seems I cared more about avoiding that itinerant mouse down there than cutting my usage of mountaintop-removal-mined and climate-disrupting electricity.
