Not if you don't put a viable alternative on the table. How would you propose the revenue be replaced?
I'm voting yes on Issue 1. I want Columbus to stay the great place to live that it always has been, and I'm not willing to force more cuts to fire, police and parks, marketing, health, etc.

I live in Grandview, so I'm not voting (although I work in Columbus, so I'll be paying it if it passes). But if I still lived in Columbus, I'd be voting yes.

I voted no because this is a temporary period of economic slowdown and like everyone else the city needs to make temporary adjustments in expenditures, including closing facilities and employee layoffs/furloughs. The economy, including wages, will rebound as will the city's revenue.

I'm holding my nose and voting yes. As much as I'd love to stick it to public service unions, I would hate to see funding become even more scarce for capital improvements (Scioto Mile, City Center rehab, impound lot removal, ect...) - all things I value and make the city more fun and livable. It pisses me off to no end that 75% of all money goes to public safety. As I type this, yet another police car is racing up 4th with sirens blaring into the ghetto because some hoodlum (who most likely doesn't pay any taxes, let alone vote) has done something stupid. Furthermore, at least the mayor is at least paying lip service to getting out of control public unions in line with the private sector. It's probably just rhetoric though - I'd find it hard to believe that a Dem would butt heads with the all powerful unions.

But all those things come out of the capital improvement fund (the forbidden 25%), which doesn't get touched, right?
One could choose to vote no because there's no long term plan to prevent future tax increases, just a call to hold your nose, vote yes, and pray.

Agreed!!! I want more capital improvements, and I worry that if this doesn't pass, capital improvements will fall significantly.

@neiljaye - fyi, if you live in Columbus city limits and work outside of it, you still have to pay the 2% or the future 2.5%. it may not be taken out of your check because your employer is outside of Columbus, but every 4-years or so they get a report on federal taxes paid by those with Columbus addresses and cross-list them with the city tax list. if you haven't paid, they will then bill you for it with penalties and interest. the onus is on the taxpayer to know if they should be paying the tax.
when I first relocated here my checks came from my employer in PA, who obviously didn't take them out. 4-years later, the result was not pretty.

I wonder if it fails will it be like the casino referendums and just keep showing up, slightly reworded, until it passes.

It is. Perhaps more evidence that, as someone else said first, columbusunderground is not representative of columbus as a whole.

Neither this site nor the Dispatch website is representative of the city.
The Dispatch website was long ago overrun with people looking to skew polls and opinions.
ColumbusUnderground is a quite different community, I'd venture to say.
