If they cook at all, I would definitely go with awesome knives. they'll think of you every time they pull them out.

If they like wine, a laguiole wine service is a nice gift, as are very basic riedel crystal wine glasses. By the "bordeaux" style; they are very versatile.

sorry, one more thing. If they are wine drinkers, a great case of wine is always nice. Mr. waitress could set you up with something that would impress.

-High quality knives
-a g.c. to somewhere where they can make their own home goods (i.e. CandleLab or Clay Cafe)
- Tools, if they don't have some already (essentials, like a cordless drill, a shovel, a toolset). That's what I really missed when I got my first place.
-A CSA membership, if they're into that.

Just looking for generic ideas or does the giftee have a specific interest?

How old is house? or is it a condo? or what? Garage space? Project space?

The happiest someone could make me would be to find some used high quality power tools, a rustfree Puch 531 frame in my size, or something to that effect.
