Where does one go on the internet to get an overview of homes for sale in Columbus? We are considering OTE, King Lincoln, German Village, Short North. Our preference would be German Village, but I am worried we cannot afford anything decent there.

I've seen Real Living (HER) is a good place to start. You can map the search results and it searches new listings as you adjust your place on the map.

They don't seem to have Old Town East, King Lincoln, Short North, Victorian Village or Italian Village listed

Some decent places to start and get a good idea of what's out there:
Punch in a zip code and start lookin'. ;)

Just use 43215 as the zip and guide the map to those areas.

43203 is a zip for KLD.
You might see a few things on retrometro also.

KLD is in 43203, but not bounded by the zip code. It goes quite a ways east outside the KLD boundary.
Same goes for GV. It's in 43206, but that zip code includes other neighborhoods and goes way east as well.

I wish this weren't so far over our budget:

We watched that place get built. Was always on our walk between our GV apt and the Parsons Library. It looks really nice, and the inside looks amazing. The style really sticks out in the neighborhood though. Most of the homes around it look nothing like it. :D

I can hook you up with some neighborhood activists who might be able to help point you to some houses. I know folks in Schumacher, Old Towne, Victorian Village, KLD, and others. And if you want to consider Merion Village, I might be able to point you to a few places (and no, I'm not a realtor, just a twenty-year resident and community activist!)
If you want to chat, if you are around next Sunday, I'll be spending the day at our association's table at our neighborhood's annual pasta dinner, from noon to 6 p.m. at Gates Fourth United Methodist Church. Come on by, I can introduce you to some neighborhood folk, and somebody might know of a house you might like. Some good pasta and homemade desserts too!

By the way, Eric (who built the place that you like) does good work. He has renovated some condos in our neck of the woods, as well as these new builds in Schumacher. And his wife is an activist in Schumacher. Nice people.

This is from back in December, so some of the homes may not be on the market anymore, but worth a look in terms of affordability. There's a lot out there to look at.

It's funny you mention the house I like not matching the ones around it. I figured the neighbors probably aren't big fans. I just love the idea of having this super modern new build in the midst of the history of German Village. I couldn't find a better fit for Niki and I's personalities. I just don't think I'll find a lender willing to give us that.

A few years more and I can start looking. Can't wait, I hate renting.

That place isn't technically in German Village though, it's in Schumacher Place. There's no way a modern remodel would have gone forward inside the boundaries of GV. Schumacher Place is still a great neighborhood, but you'll notice a pretty big difference in the housing stock the closer you get to Parsons. Still some nice brick homes here and there, but without the strict housing code inside the GV boundary people are free to put up vinyl siding, chain-link fences, and things of that nature.
We looked at a few homes in that area ourselves, and while they were cheaper than inside GV, they were still pretty expensive.
