It's a Coats family tradition although my grandfather probably wanted to strangle me from the grave for drinking a PBR :)

Um, huh? St. Patty's Day was Saturday because today (Holy Monday) is a Roman Catholic holiday:
The date of the feast is occasionally moved by church authorities when March 17 falls during Holy Week; this happened in 1940 when Saint Patrick's Day was observed on 3 April in order to avoid it coinciding with Palm Sunday, and is happening again in 2008, being observed on 15 March.[2] March 17 will not fall during Holy Week again until 2160.[3]
Though I guess I can understand if not a lot of people got the message. Nevertheless, the Catholic Church is still the official arbiter of St. Pat's Day; it's not like this one was ever adopted into the secular U.S. calendar the way Christmas was.

Yes, Gram, we're all aware, Debbie Downer. However, the really good Catholics have learned to pick and choose what works best for them. I had plans on Saturday which did not allow me to observe St Patty's Day so I am choosing to continue my celebration today.

True enough ... I guess if the issue is when the bars are having their celebrations, it doesn't exactly matter when the Church declared the "official" holiday to be.
Nevertheless, I'm not going to feel guilty about not wearing green today. :P (And don't even get me started on the subject of green beer. )
