Linda is a fourth generation Hilltop resident who comes from a family of builders. From constructing homes to working on the rotunda of the state house, the signs of her family’s tradition of craftsmanship can be read through many of the buildings of Columbus. From surviving the great flood of 1913 in the Hilltop to persevering through the difficult times of the Great Depression, Linda tells a story of her family surviving and thriving in the Hilltop. The Hilltop Story project started in 2009 and is a collaboration between the O.S.U. Center for the Study and Teaching of Writing (CSTW) director Dickie Selfe, Loring Resler, Aaron Knochel and Hilltop community centers such as the Hilltop Branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library, the J. Ashburn Jr. Youth Center, and is supported by a grant from the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) program. The project aims to collect and archive digitized storytelling events of the local histories and vibrant stories of Hilltop residents and community workers.
The Hilltop Story project is ongoing in its efforts to collect stories about the Hilltop and capture the rich traditions and memories of a changing community in Columbus. If you would like to participate please contact hilltopstories@gmail.com
Launched in August 2010, TheMetropreneur.com is a local online resource devoted to small business development and entrepreneurship. Its aim is to tell the stories of Central Ohio's business community, foster regional economic development and assist entrepreneurs with its resource-heavy focus.
