We had our first trash pickup today having just advertised it within the neigborhood. We had one senate candidate, Bob Seed from the City, and 26 neighbors and residents. We picked up 56 bags of trash between I70 and Hague Ave on Broad.

Our next event coming up will be a holiday light up your house style contest for the residents in our area, with prizes to be announced. We have not come up with a name for it yet, so more to come on that. We are constantly recruiting for our various committees, and for new residents.

Many houses up here are currently priced below 100k, and unlike other similarly priced neighborhoods in this city, many if not most of these homes are move in ready at that price range. If you are interested in seeing some of the homes in our neighborhood you are always welcome to contact us, we'd be happy to show people where the safer areas, nicer houses, are etc. And of course, if you buy up here we will be bringing you a basket of fresh baked cookies to welcome you to our neighborhood.

Nice to see more activity on the west side! I took pics along W. Broad of the neighborhood (and got a couple of the cleanup). If you guys would like to use some feel free.

Good to hear. The Bicentennial Bikeways plan can be downloaded from here and will give more detail on what is planned for the area. There is a Hilltop Mobility Plan that might offer greater detail for the specific west side area as well.

One thing you may want to look at, regarding a club, would be the creation of a co-op space similar to Third Hand. We could use more spaces/groups like that, which would bring accessible alternatives to a very local level. Maybe this could be a consideration for the Franklinton arts space?

I think bike lanes on West Broad St, all the way into Downtown will do alot for the Westside as a whole. [i]

I think bike lanes on West Broad St, all the way into Downtown will do alot for the Westside as a whole. [i]

I'm pushing for a roller blading club too, and some skate boarders are needed as well.

I've never heard of it honestly. I'm told there are also some pretty neat areas between Rhodes and Holton Parks.

Unfortuntely one of the best resources in Columbus for trailways/greenways is offline as the author recently moved out of Columbus. Is it the Sulivant Trace Trail?

The Camp Chase Trail is slated for completion by 2012 and will connect into the southern leg of the Ohio to Eire rail trail.

It would be nice if Sullivant Trace would actually be connected to the downtown system ... but don't see how with the freeway and the railroad tracks standing in the way. I've heard of no plans by the city to do this, but it would be nice to have it connected and then extend it along the railway tracks all the way over toward Westgate.

Yes it goes just south of the northern border of Highland West, beginning at Eureka Avenue, in Glenview Park, across the street from Holton Park's Rec Center, following the creek and then through the state lands to Rhodes Park where it ends. Beautiful scenery through the wooded areas and a real nice stream. It also goes past the "rock", a 7 foot x 8 foot boulder that the last glacier left there ... practically an icon in the community amongst young folk who have gathered there over the decades for "whatever"! (If rocks could talk!)

I think I have the Sulivant Trace Trail sketched here.

I'm digging through the bikeways plan now. Looking at this map it appears that the proposed Camp Chase rail trail would connect and the STT would be a side branch, with the CCRT continuing north into a current portion of the Scioto Greenway which itself will see further work and greater connectivity.

Not to derail any further [though considerations of accessibility and alternatives in helping any neighborhood succeed are important], as you begin seeing some increase in retail and other businesses it would be great to see some "sponsorship" of some innovative bike parking. Namely Portland style on street corrals. You essentially remove a car space and replace it with bollards and racks to provide 15-20 spaces for bikes and increasing the foot traffic in the area.

What amazes me is, The National Road/West Broad Street has a history dating back to Thomas Jefferson (he approved the funding) 206 years later, we have a lot of clean up to do. There are many positive things happening up here. I live past Hague Ave but that stretch of Broad from 70 to 270 is LONG overdue for some serious love. There are many people and organizations that have stepped up to the plate to make the West Side a better place... I wouldn't want to live anywhere else on Cbus.
In case anyone has forgot, this is the 2nd year they are bringing back the Uptown on the Hilltop Parade, this Sunday, 11/01/09... it goes from ODOT to Powell Ave. It kicks off at 1:30, at least check it out.
