Whatever fogger you use, make sure it contains a growth inhibitor, so it will keep anything from reaching the adult stage.
Actually, one of the best things you can do is vacuum your house EVERY SINGLE DAY.
It can be pain, but it works.Posted 7 months ago # -
have you tried Frontline on your pets? (assuming you are a pet owner) It worked for me. All the fleas in the house will jump on the animal and die after biting it.

Those foggers are really toxic and should really be a super last resort. They are a lot of work as well, you have to cover so many things and bag up so much stuff, and clear out food. Maybe you're already there and need it, but there are other things you can try: Vacuum daily, the vibrations from the vacuum attract fleas (empty bag/canister outdoors into trash immediately, so the eggs don't hatch out of the vacuum.) If you have hardwood also vacuum any grooves/gaps in flooring. Wash all bedding (human and pet) in hot water with a cycle in the dryer to kill eggs (do this daily if the problem is really bad.) Put all cleaned bedding not currently in use into plastic bags to prevent reinfestation. Vacuum couches daily, as well as any long curtains and throw pillows, etc. And of course as someone else mentioned Frontline your pets. If you do all of this stuff you can get rid of the fleas you have and break the cycle of having new fleas hatching on your pets (Frontline is key there.) I had a really bad infestation a couple years back (caused by trying a non-chemical, eco-friendly flea treatment instead of Frontline one summer) and doing everything above we had it under control in about a week or so. Good Luck!

I've read that Frontline has stopped working in certain circumstances. The fleas, they're adapting!

I am now using the comparable brand from Wal-Mart along with flea powder, this seems to be working better and its half the price.

You want to know what's really good for fleas? Let 'em bite you, they love that.
(heh heh, been waiting years to pull that one out...)

I've heard that putting a crappy flea collar inside your vacuum bag/canister is a good trick.

Called my vet after I realized it wasn't doing a thing and they confirmed that the fleas seem to have adapted to it. My vet actually quit selling it altogether until Frontline figures out a new formula that works. Advantix works in its place, though.Posted 7 months ago # -
I hadn't heard that. It still works for my dogs. I buy the Frontline Plus version, it is slightly different than the regular Frontline. My vet told me not to buy the cheap stuff from the grocery store (flea collars, flea powders, flea drops, etc.) b/c those are less safe for your pets.

same here
frontline plus used to last a month, now it only lasts a couple weeks and the dogs start scratching again.Posted 7 months ago # -
All
I had an issue with Fleas this late summer as well, I went to my vet for some extra Frontline and they were able to sell me a can of stuff ($25) that prevented any females from being able to lay eggs, and kill any flea and flea egg it touched.
It worked like hairspray, only had to settle and leave the room for 5 mins, worked like a champ! Can't remember what is was called but the German Village Vet has it on South High St and Gates.
If you are having issues I suggest you talk to you vet, mine made a comment that a LOT of owners were having issues due to the wet weather toward the end of the summer.

I got a similar sounding spray recently, environmentally friendly at my vet it was like $17. Haven't seen any fleas lately on any of the animals. I'm using a generic frontline on the cats that seems to work as well as the spendy stuff.

I switched to Sentinel this year - it's a little monthly pill, instead of the topical stuff. Not only had the topicals stopped working (dog got full-terrible-crazy-fleas TWICE 2 years ago on Revolution), but they left a burn on his skin, which just sucks. The Sentinel seems to work really well.
Petey got the fleas from two different friend's houses, both that were using a topical flea stuff on their dog, and they sort of worked to keep the fleas off the dog, but both houses had (unbeknownst to them) fleas in their carpets. The worst case, he ended up having an exterminator in... TWICE. Fleas are evolving & getting to be crazy hard to kill.
Both times, I used CapStar on Petey - it's a pill, and it alters something about the dander/oil in the dog's (cat's) skin, and starts killing the fleas immediately. Since my poor dog is super allergic to the suckers, getting them off him asap is critical. Ugh.
Anywho. Fleas are definitely creating a superrace. One day, one will jump into a new computer, and robotize, and we'll all have to bow to our new flea overlords.
Edit: I found the powder stuff, to put in carpet, works pretty well. But, like all that stuff, it's friggin' toxic & is a last resort.

This year has been remarkably bad. I know a friend who has spent thousands, no exaggeration, to get rid of them...and they keep coming back.
