Boathouse at Griggs is still a bad deal
Saturday, April 16, 2011Those who followed the dispute that raged about this time two years ago, regarding the boathouse at Griggs Reservoir for the OSU women’s rowing team, may wonder how things turned out. Was it a big fuss over nothing? A distilled summary of the two sides of the issue went this way: For the rowers, the site selected was the only safe launch site for their boats; for the opponents, the site would introduce more traffic to an area already unsafe and, also, the opponents questioned the use of public property for a nonpublic use.

Hmm, I wonder if FOSR should buy a membership to GCRA, even if we don't row. I already maintain an FOSR membership to a fishing board, though I don't fish, but they don't charge money for membership.
We wanted to site the boathouse on the already-developed east side of the river, with access to 33, etc. Our opposing positons and arguments were "heard" as Ms. Tyson said, but they were not heeded. That park has been sold off.
So we have a $5 million facility that will not increase traffic. I'd like to know where the return on investment is, if that's the case, but the answer is probably in NCAA Title IX.
