I really want to cover the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, but I doubt the price tag is in the budget for my weekly Venture column. Instead of just going, keeping my receipts and hoping to be reimbursed, I thought of some fun ways to raise the cash:
1. Beer Olympics: Local drinkers would engage in friendly competitions at a local bar. They would be similar to those in Beerfest. There would be an entry fee -- part of which I would keep -- and plenty of fun.
2. Sponsored scavenger hunt: My friend took a trip overseas once, and his friends paid him t do interesting things while on it. This was a more fun version of how things like March of Dimes works. For example, for $10, someone could sponsor me to drink one beer with an Olympic athlete or shake hands with a foreign dignitary.
Thoughts?
