So my wife and I enjoyed the Independent's Day Festival last week, and were laughing afterwards about how many hipsters were there when it suddenly occurred to me --gasp! Are we black hipsters? We sure do seem to go a lot of places where hipsters hang out!
Let's examine the evidence:
Ambiguous
Do we hate hipsters? YES, BUT all hipsters hate hipsters BUT REALLY hipsters don't bother me all that much.
Do we dress like hipsters NO, BUT my wife does like hipster glasses BUT REALLY she also has dreadlocks
Do we drink PBR? YES, BUT we don't drink it all that often BUT REALLY we do have some in our fridge right now
Am I obsessed with obscure indie music YES, BUT I have nothing against big pop hits BUT REALLY I haven't actually listened to top 40 since the 90's ended.
Do we live in a transitional urban neighborhood YES, BUT I grew up in this part of the city BUT REALLY we recently moved to a much trendier part of it.
Are we in a crappy band? NO, BUT I do have six guitars scattered around my house BUT REALLY is that so hipster?
Unambiguous
Do we own a record player? Yes, an original vintage stackable from the 60's that my mother gave me. I haven't NOT owned a record player at any point in the last 25 years.
Do I like things better the more retro they are? Yes.
Do we constantly toss around terms like "local" and "microlocal"? Yes.
Do we have liberal arts degrees? Philosophy (me) and Art History (her)
Do I post frequently on Columbus Underground? I think we all know the answer to this one.
VERDICT: Very Hipsteresque
