I'd like to get my brother an HD antenna for his B-day, (no, he has no cable). He said that in Columbus you can only get good reception with an outdoor HD antenna. Can anyone verify this, or have you you used an indoor HD antenna and had good results with it?

Don't buy into the hype. HD runs on UHF airways, so if you find a great UHF antenna, you can get HD.
Radio Shack carries em.

I 100% agree. Be very careful when picking up anything marked "HD Antenna" There's probably a huge markup.
I've used an unpowered indoor antenna. I put it right in my window that points toward downtown, so I picked up everything. It was just a little RCA brand thing, cost less than $10.
You do need a specific tuner to get HD, but most TV's have them now.
P.S. These guys know what they're talking about. hdColumbus.net

So a UHF and HD antenna are one and the same? That's good to know. Should I go with indoor or outdoor? Just how much HD programming can you expect to pick up around Columbus, besides 4, 6, 10 and 34?
Oh, and yes, my brother has an HD TV, but his paycheck - and his quirks  - keeps him from getting cable.

fyi basic cable only runs like $15/mo.
you have to ask for it. cable companies advertise their basic cable at around $40/a month, but if you ask for basic basic cable they have a package at about $15/mo. I know WOW and Time Warner both have the $15/mo package, but you have to ask for it, they don't advertise it. it's like 30 channels.
and if you wait for a special you can get free install in 5 rooms typically. you don't get the digital box, it's just the cable line hooked straight to your TV.
but I've also used rabit ears and they work just fine, but you only get 4,6,8,10,28,34 (something like that)

Basically most of the signals come from around around 33 and 315. Make sure you have a clear aim towards that area for best signal. I think PBS comes from a different direction and chops up on me sometimes(living in Clintonville that is). This site is extremely helpful and helped me aim.
