Some (female) networking associates and myself were sitting in a Panera yesterday, and the topic came up about the "good ol' boys" clubs of yesteryear. An attorney in the group mentioned that since the recession has hit, she has really noticed a resurgence of the boys club mentality within her firm. The male partners seem less likely to agree to promote women than they were a few years ago. And I've heard that the commercial real estate market is notorious for that.
While we'll never return to the Mad Men-style, slap the secretary on the butt mentality, I'm definitely curious, have any women felt this happening? Are there deals we don't know about going on behind closed doors within a sea of cigar smoke and strippers?
