What are you doing to celebrate today? I'm thinking that some backyard grilling is in order, along with a trip to the park with the kiddo.
Otherwise, trying to do as little as possible. ;)

Was thinkin about maybe volunteering for Doo Dah... never had the chance to before cause I was usually working the 4th at my previous job.
In fact, not sure I ever got the chance to see a Doo dah Parade yet in my 5 years or so in Cbus.
Gonna be a fun day!
Oh yes! We're planning on watching the parade too. One of those things we've been meaning to cross off the "embarrassed to admit we've never done before" list. ;)
Doo dah is one of my favorite things. Unfortunately I have to work today. So I'll be slinging mattresses all day.
Have a great day!
Parade, Cook-Out, Fireworks. Happy 4th!
I'm 30 today, doodah then who knows! Go crazy!
Happy birthday, Snarf!
I set our flag out, but it's becoming faded. I knew there's a way to properly retire it but it's not quite what I expected.

... maybe I'll do this in the campfire at the Indiana pepper field.
Dinner will be slabs of dead cow, optionally wrapped in bacon. Herself came home with some steaks, but we've also the petite roast from a tenderloin to use up.
Big honking lamb shoulder roast, hopefully some Greek Festival aroma happening
Snarf, Happy Birthday...have a good one!
AND admiring the NEW CU!
Happy Birthday Snarfy (I feel close enough to you to call you that.)
2nd straight year- 5 parades + 2 fireworks shows....
On the 4th proper- Parade, Another Parade (DooDah), family time (with food), Fireworks
I'm grilling and enjoying the fact that when I post, it doesn't take 2 minutes to actually acknowledge it. Nice work with all the back-end updates.
I had to work. *sadface*

You can also contact VFW, American Legion or a local Scout troop (just read the article and they mention this).
We did these a number of ceremonies when I was in Scouts and I witnessed the American Legion do one when I was at Bowling Green for Boys State. It's really beautiful if you get a chance to watch one of those groups do it.
We never burned whole, we always cut the flag in pieces, leaving the blue field of stars in one piece. Each of the boys would get a piece and would take turns laying it on the fire and say something about what the flag or country meant to them.
I wonder where the edges of the flag rules are. Does it apply to every US flag, no matter how small? Or maybe only to a flag that could be raised, as opposed to a little lag on a stick like the one that the nursing home gave to my mom? They had them all over the place and I doubt that any of them will be disposed of with any ceremony.
Thanks for the b-day wishes, y'all. It was a blast.
I really do love 4th of July even if it weren't a bday for me.
DooDah was awesome.
