I am very excited about my Open mic Tomorrow at Hal and Al's. This is a new bar, but has been very successful because of the great atmosphere, and reasonably priced drinks. I encourage people to cmoe out and promise a great time if you do! The comics will make you laugh for free, and bartender will make you drinks for cheap. Hope to see you there!!!

What do comics need to do to get in the show? Is it a true open mic or do you book it in advance?

Pardon my late inquiry, but how did it go? I am interested in getting a improv comedy night going and would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you in advance.

Hey GrumpyPapBear, I sent you a PM with my contact info. I can put you in touch with the host of Hal & Al's comedy night.

Looking forward to that one! It's been a while, but there was an acoustic open mike night there over the summer. Any word on that?

The acoustic open mike has been taken off the calander, but we always have live music on Saturday's and most Friday's too. Check back with us, we have a couple new events to introduce to our patrons, details will be posted on our website very soon.

Is there a comedy night tonight?

Bob Cook is a very funny guy and one of the nicest people I know. I hope more people start coming out for the Open Mic Night to support Central Ohio's talented comedians.

Will be there tonight!

We are on for comedy night tonight! Bob will be here ready to roll at 9pm, come on out and bring a frined or two. We have $1 bud light draft ALL NIGHT!!! Help us kill the keg so we replace it with a new brew.

just got back. couple suggestions - take 'em or leave 'em.
I would ask that anyone doing stand-up do their best to bring at least 5 friends. This will not only help their nerves but put people in the seats. Seemed tonight like no one had anyone 'rooting for them' in the crowd.
Let the comedians know that if a joke bombs it's bad form to blame the audience (i.e. "I'm sorry, but that's funny") It immediately creates antogonism and the audience is no longer interested in helping them succeed.
I'm all for supporting the local comedy scene but I didn't leave tonight telling friends they should come check this out. And i would like to ...

I hear what you are sayin Jmak. Open mics are always a hit or miss scenario. Unfortunately it often times ends up being 10-12 comics performing to 10-12 comics who have heard their material a hundred times and 10 other random customers round out the audience. It can be challenging for them to get a good vibe going& sometimes that frustration bleeds out into their act. Don't give up though! Every week has new potential.
Sadly we didn't make it last night but will try again next week. We went to see Precious& that pretty much killed the "now go tell jokes" vibe. ;-) Powerful film though, I highly recommend it.

Don't worry, I'll never give up on the Columbus comedy scene and the people brave enough to get up there always have my highest respect.

The truth is some open mic comics can't be coached. And shouldn't be.

jmak,
we missed each other there.
I agree with your feedback completely.Posted 2 years ago # -
Thanks for the feedback guys, if anyone is interested in sharing their thoughts/ideas I'd be happy to buy you a beer. Just send me a PM.
Also wanted to let you know there will not be an open mic comedy night tonight 11/29/09, but we will resume next Sunday and we are working hard to make it a great show.

I should also mention that I thought it was a great bar and the bartender Dana was fantastic. I'll have to get some food next time I'm there. :)
