Has anyone considered doing a get together type thing similar to the recent cleanup with Habitat? I know OSU is getting ready to demo two buildings in the near future and they will most likely be calling for volunteers. Plus they are always desperate for help at the BIAC where you can get some great deals on antiques for the older fixxer uppers.

Do you have any information on the details? Link?
We had a lot of fun partnering with the city to do the cleanup last weekend, so we'd definitely look into doing more of this type of stuff! :D

I have a contact with OSU facilities who loves to talk about the deconstruction of Lord and Brown and how they utilized Habitat and volunteers for the stripout on the Union etc. I will email her today for permission to give out her info. I did not participate in the Union but it involved removing doors, windows, furniture, lights etc.
As far as Habitat: http://www.habitatcolumbus.org/biac.asp
All the volunteer info is there. The volunteer link on the right goes to demolitions and skilled positions while the one to the left is for the store shifts. Several of my friends do the store shifts and claim it is great fun. I think the demolition end and the store sound like fun.

I've coordinated a build with the local group before - great people to work with. I can pass along information to you guys (Walker/Anne) if you'd like.

Please do so. We will look into it. Sounds fun and another good idea to work in the community! Thanks!

i was one of those ohio union volunteers. during my shift it was me, an old man, two teenage girls, their mom and many, many heavy desks. that was a rough day....

I can't get my OSU contact to respond directly to the CU effort regarding demolition. I assume they don't know if Habitat will be involved since Lord and Brown are both manual deconstructions instead of mechanical demolitions. It looks like you got the right names for the BIAC though. I think a CU shift at the BIAC would be a hoot.

Okay it took a while but heres the contact for the OSU chapter of Habitat. Her name is Rachel Stork. They are doing several interesting things through campus such as aluminum can drives to fund new construction, some kind of race for a roof and as always the BIAC/Restore shifts. No word yet on future demo jobs for those who were lovin that.
