Saw this a few days ago. Not sure if there's any GBV fans here, but I know I am. I have to say I might have to go see this. I've heard that they'll be playing in Kentucky, and I'm guessing there will be Ohio shows as well.
Guided By Voices, the classic indie rock band from Dayton, Ohio formed by prolific songwriter and lead singer Robert Pollard in 1983, is reuniting its “classic ‘93 – ‘96 lineup†for Matador Records’ 21st birthday party in Las Vegas, NV. According to Billboard sources, additional dates in other cities will be announced soon. The classic GBV lineup is generally considered to include Pollard, guitarists Tobin Sprout and Mitch Mitchell, bassist Greg Demos and drummer Kevin Fennell. The lineup imploded around the time of the release of its 1997 album “Mag Earwhig!†Demos and Fennell have kept a very low profile in recent years.
“I initially told them, ‘No, we don’t play Vegas,’ †he said with a chuckle. “They came back and offered us more money, so I told them I’d see what the other guys said. It took some time to track Kevin down, but they all wanted to do it.â€Â
Although no dates are confirmed, GBV will follow that reunion show with some United States dates. This will be Pollard’s first tour since the Boston Spaceships outing in 2008 and the first GBV shows since disbanding in 2004.
“I’m not sure this will end after this particular tour,†he said. “But after this has run its course, that’s the end for Guided by Voices. My justification for even doing it was, we’re old, but we’re not completely feeble yet. We can still do it a little bit, so we better do this before that happens.â€Â
