Seeing these videos makes me want to watch MythBusters.
seeing these videos makes me glad I have a life!
if anyone ever catches me on you tube at midnight searching for kids playing with model rockets please insert bitch smack instantly.
Model rocket guys are so cheery about how many times their rockets have somehow crashed, but lived to fly again. "That one got mushroomed" or "That one got zippered" are marks of loving pride. You don't hear model railroad guys talking about how many times their trains have crashed.
Then there is "recovery by backhoe" which is terminal.
My brother made these when we were younger... they always ended up on the roof somehow.

We did a model rocket themed camping trip (this was only overshadowed in awesomeness by the gun trip) and had plenty of those moments. Mine got stuck on the pad and burned a hole through the tube. So we grabbed the duct tape. Worked fine after that.
One of the assistant scoutmasters had their young kid along. Dumbass didn't glue his rocket together well enough, so it went up all about 10 feet before the rocket engine and the rocket body separated, sending the rocket corkscrewing straight towards the scoutmaster and a scout.
Oh the agony of waiting for my mail orders to arrive from Estes ...
As for not gluing well, I admit sometimes I'd be too impatient to wait for the glue to dry on a newly-built rocket. At launch the rocket takes off and the fins come fluttering back to earth.
I once saw a rocket lift from the pad and do a 90 degree roll to vertical the moment it cleared the launch rail. It came right towards me and hit me in the left shoulder. I felt the impact but it did not hurt at all. And my shoulder was only covered by my shirt; there was nothing to absorb the blow.
But what can you expect with a rocket that only weighs a few ounces and has a motor that maxes out with 2 pounds of thrust.
I had a model rocket misfire on me once. Kind of scary at the time but it's all good. I'm kind of scared that you don't need a license for high power rocketry anymore though.
"Should we get behind...."
