With the much anticipated opening of Dirty Franks Dogs I have to say i'm quite excited. My love affair began during my college years when I was an intern in DC when i saw the first Hebrew National dog cart with the best tagline ever: "We answer to a higher power". Since then, I have ate dogs from Columbus to Chicago to LA (ps - London has TERRIBLE dogs). I've had good and bad. So whats my favorite off-the-beaten-path dog? There is a dog stand in Athens, Ohio called O'Betty's. It's like our Betty's, but only with hot dogs. They do their own fries, they have a great menu with gourmet toppings and it's my favorite place to eat in Athens. Wanna go? Check them out at 15 West State Street Athens (740) 589-6111. I promise it is worth the trip! If you don't like their dogs, i'll buy you some at my second fav joint for an everyday dog: Village Coney in Schumacher Place. Village Coney isn't fancy - but it serves a good solid dog.
When did you fall in love with the dog?

One time in my life I have seen hot dogs that are good. So good in fact I ate them. From that time in my life there have been other dogs, never as good as that first one time in my life that I had a dog. I must admit there have been other times that they were better but I say they were not anyways just to be fun with life. My love affair with dog continues and I am excited to try Dirty Franks hot dogs because the dogs are good I bet you. If they turn out to be the best dog I have had I will let you know. Chopped onion is good on dogs with mustard I like yellow and pickles dogs.

O'Bettys is good stuff. I agree with you about London....I was at the London Zoo with my family when I was a little kid and we got hot dogs, and they were just awful.

That article is what prompted me to start the thread! :) It seems that peoples love (or dis-love) affair with the hot dog is one of those memories you can't get rid of and a story that is often very personal. In my humble sociologist-turned-ad exec opinion, the way a person likes their hot dogs is a window to their soul.

Vestanpance - do you make that thing yourself or where can I get it?! That sounds so good! Hot dogs with coleslaw, bacon and spicy mustard and a bit of Franks Hot Sauce also sound good right now.

I like mine without a bun. I hate to think what that says about me.
