The final seasonal release from Goose Island is Dominque and we are tapping a keg on Thursday. Sours are becoming increasingly popular right now. Here is some info on their new beer:
Dominique – 9.5% ABV
A Belgian Style Sour Ale aged in used 10-16 year old Heaven Hills Bourbon Barrels and soured with Lactobacillus and Brettanomyces. This extremely complex beer combines the spicey notes of Belgian yeast, the sour elements of the Lacto along with the smooth vanilla oak flavors from the Bourbon Barrel.
The barrel aging process often covers up flavors and dominates lighter beers. For Dominique, the lactic acid sourness plays a battle for dominance with the woody vanilla and coconut notes and ends up balancing very nicely. The yeast creates really fine fruity notes of pineapples, and mangoes.
We are going to taste it next to the Matilda because it was beginning stage of this beer before they aged it in bourbon barrels& made it into a sour!
Event starts at 6pm tomorrow. We will have this beer on tap through the weekend& possibly next week as well. See you there!
