Sounds pretty good. I'll check it out next time I'm up there.

Not any of the above. I just happen to have a friend who lives in the apartments across the street and hang out there often. Just because I have gone there several times and like it doesn't mean I am connected. I happen to like several other places in that area as well.

Had a late lunch there. I loved the whole grain bread and the hand-cut fries were even better than Dirty Frank's (much to my chagrin ; )...my favorite part is the GIANT foam skillet hanging from the enormous wall to the east. Solid beer list and a really cozy, warm interior with another separate bar area upstairs. Owners Dave and Lenne are living their dream and they have a really solid and friendly staff. It's nice to see an independently owned and operated concept open up in the Gateway. My best wishes to everyone over there.

Definitely isn't the owner because we were just chatting with him and his wife :) Awesome people, super inspiring to me, and I wish them the best of luck!! As you can imagine, there's little free time when you first start out, but I'm hoping he can find some time to introduce himself to all of us.
Love the space. Warm, fun, comfortable, just like them. Funny how that works :)
I was super impressed with the Texas Toast - buttery and crunchy like it should be, but not greasy like it usually is. Definitely will get a 1/2 next time because I got too full before I had enough of my fries which were really good and seasoned well. I'd definitely stop in before/after a movie and will be more inclined to hit up the Gateway for movies now with this option. Definitely worth a stop in.
PS - if they add avocado to the list of available toppings I'll be a VERY happy girl!

Haha, I figured. There's these little batter and fried bits 'o spicy cheese too, holy jeesh, those things are scary good.
Having second thoughts on SNT for the game on Thursday. Might be fun to check it out before all the kids come back. They are bringing in a huge screen for the game.

I guess I've grown hyper critical of really enthusiastic first-time posters on these new restaurant posts... My cynicism needs to be reigned in. :)
It's a great concept - especially with winter coming on, and my need for continual grilled-cheese-goodness takes over. I'm looking forward to checking the place out, for sure.

No worries! I get the cynicism and would probably have thought the same thing haha! I will be curious what you think when you go. My boyfriend and I just wish they would open one up in Hillard so the late night cravings could be satisfied, although, somehow I don't think my trainer would approve :)!

Top notch sandwiches! Great musicians play there too. Once the word gets out a bit this should easily be a success. Met the owner (props for being a Columbus native) who said that he and his wife just decided one day to go for it whether it make or break them. If it doesn't go the long haul it's probably due to location. I think people just expect corporate national B.S. in the Gateway (Easton Campus IMHO). But, THIS IS NOT A CHAIN! SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL BUSINESS PEOPLE, PEOPLE! He said he even hired all local artists to do the logo, menus and everything, including the impressive giant foam skillet. I wish they had one closer to Clintonville where I live, especially since cold Brooklyn Lagers on tap kept me there far longer than I would like to admit last week. Seriously, I needed more of those fries to prepare myself as the bus was no longer running by the time I decided to make my move. I will be heading back soon.

Ugh. I feel like this concept is going to be stolen from Melt and run ad nauseum. I don't know if Melt invented it, btw, but they perfected it and should own it.Gooeyz is hardly the first. My favorite restaurant up here in Akron is The Lockview, both because it's within walking distance of my apartment and because they've got more than 100 different craft brews to go along with those gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches. And sweet potato fries, albeit not quite as yummy as the Lessner kind. (That still leaves room for ample yumminess, however.)
Love the Lockview. I get there quite a bit with the parents when I'm visiting as they usually have friends playing music there.
As I have an obsessive love of cheese I will have to try Gooeyz in spite of the horrid name.

Grilled cheese. It's the humble sandwich beloved by vegetarians and toddlers. Thanks to Gooeyz, a new restaurant in the South Campus Gateway, it has gotten a serious gourmet makeover.

Fat Dog (acoustic) rocked the "Hideout" stage (pictured above) tonight with Brutus Buckeye and the OSU cheer squad making the rounds with plenty of the obligatory OH-IO chants getting us ready for Thursdays game, which will, according to the hosts, Dave and Lannee (sp?), be projected in hi-def onto a 14 foot wide screen on the big wall. One of the OSU squad members even got up and did some impromptu acoustic jamming. Not bad for a jock either ;-) Apparently, I have developed an unhealthy appetite for cheese products and Brooklyn Lagers. This could be a regular stop, but I may need to get on some cholesterol drugs. We met some of the staff and my pals were blown away with the food let alone the great energy. 2 for 2 on the great night out scorecard. Diggin' the atmosphere way better this time out, and I'm an old Mama's P&B / Andyman's Treehouse dweller. Shame that the rest don't get it down here. If it keeps up, the natives are going to bring back what made OSU's campus cool back in the day. Signed, Class of '94

Do they serve tomato soup? Sometimes I like to dip my grilled cheese in tomato soup. Better yet, if they could just combine the soup and sandwich in a blender and serve it to me in a cup with a straw like a milkshake, that would save me a lot of time and I could also eat it on the go.

Went for lunch today. Good food, and excellent customer service. I was asked a couple of times how my meal was, even though the set-up is order and pick-up style. The veggie sandwich looked awesome -- will definitely try that out at my next visit. Definitely recommended.

Just got back from Gooeyz and we loved it. The customer service was awesome. I got the Bayouez and it was really good (chicken, pepperjack, cajun spread). It had a lot of chicken in it and the portions are big, so go with the half sandwich if you want fries or soup. The seasoned fries are great and there are enough for 2 people easily. I love that this isn't a part of a chain in a chain-dominated portion of campus. I definitely recommend it.

update: the loaded fries at this place are effin KILLER! Walked up after the Miami game Saturday for some beers, and rather than my typical turkey melt (or "Gobble Gooey" for those so willing to utter this), opted for what, as it turns out, contains all the best worst things together on one big platter deepfried melted and heavily bacon infused. As a parishoner of the Church of Bacon, of course I felt truely blessed. Live music again - this time, a guitar and mandolin playing cool reinterpreted covers of alt and classic rock anthems. Discovered that for your basic people watching, this may be the best patio in Cbus. Apparently, Poser-Central is right in the nearby vicinity. ;-)
