We're looking for a preschool experience for our son. He's 20 months now, but we're looking for the fall. We're primarily interested in helping him learn to socialize, but a place that stimulates his mind would be good too. We'd like a diverse, caring environment, and we can't afford too much without financial aid. Close to downtown would be ideal.
Any suggestions?

The School for Young Children is where my husband went and my daughter currently attends. They are play based with support for the whole family. My daughter has grown so much there.
Applications for 2010 are out now and placement begins February 19.

We visited there today and really liked it. The staff seemed very knowledgeable and committed, and we liked their philosophy and family atmosphere.
However I was a little concerned about what seemed to be a lack of racial diversity. We'd rather our son not be the only non-white child in his class.
