My better half would like to watch Red, White, and Boom this year, but isn't a fan of large crowds. Does anybody out there have suggestions as to where to watch it without battling downtown? Any response would be great.

Scioto Audobon Metro Park
Any ideas for parents with a young child?
I watched them last year on the hill between spring and long next to the railroad tracks near the north bank park. Awesome spot, not too many people and right near the action. I took the olentangy bike trail and dodged all the traffic. They close off access to Dublin Rd at the confluence restaurant so you don't have to worry about cars. I got there at 8pm and didn't have a problem finding a spot.
When I was a kid my parents took me to the top of an OSU parking garage. They may frown on that now though.
How about Grandview Yard? There's a great view of the city and you would be able to hear the show without it being deafening.
Ballpark Boom at Huntington Park is awesome, especially for kids. Lots of space, clean, available restrooms, concessions, and an option to go down on the field, as well. I think that there are games and activities, as well. Live music after the event. (Stay for the music, miss the traffic.) $5 entrance fee.

We discovered that you can see the fireworks quite well from the parking lot of Select Specialty Hospital in Victorian Village. There is a large parking lot bordered by Dennison, Hunter, Third and Second. We've watched it there several years in a row. You can park in the lot or on surrounding streets and bring your folding chairs. There is enough of a crowd that it is a little bit festive and someone usually has the broadcast on their boom box or car radio. You definitely miss out on the whole experience of being so close to the fireworks and hearing and feeling them explode, but the tradeoff is that you don't have to hassle with the crowds and traffic. We live near 3rd and Neil and so we just walk over with our chairs. Last year, we discovered that we can see them through the window of our master bedroom and from the roof of our front porch - would invite you to join us but there's not enough room for all of us!
goodale park gets a pretty good size crowd, but not crazy busy.
I've heard that Rhodes Park on the hilltop has a nice view, and is WELL outside of downtown, but can't say I've ever really been there myself, I watch 'em from my front yard!
They're on TV.

We have watched a few years on top of Junctionview and the fireworks are really to far away to really enjoy at that distance.
Now that the Audobon park was mentioned that would be a great spot to watch! getting in and out may be a different story. For sure anywhere you go by bike is the best way to avoid crowds/traffic for this event.

Many spectators at the 31st annual Red, White & Boom will have a waterfront view for the fireworks display.
For the past three years, construction has limited access to a good portion of land along the Scioto River. Now, the city has opened Civic Center Drive from Broad Street to Main Street.

For the past three years, construction has limited access to a good portion of land along the Scioto River. Now, the city has opened Civic Center Drive from Broad Street to Main Street.
"It's one of the best viewing areas of the city to watch the fireworks. It's right across the river," said Mike Collins, executive director of Red, White & Boom.

anyone else not very impressed this year? I watched it from the same location I have the last few years so I know that wasn't it. This year just didn't do it, or have a wow factor for me.
It was impossible to get a bus home after the event even with all the extra buses running. I take the #2 straight up High to the Graceland area, but we walked from Spring & John McConnell to north of the new Kroger before we were able to find a bus that would let us on only to have it break down two blocks later. We got out and walked to High & Arcadia before we found an empty cab. Thankfully the two kids I had with me thought it was an adventure. I was just glad I had whiskey at home. Heh.
