where can I get some good fried chicken? back home we had some really great take out places for chicken, here all I see is KFC, Popeyes, Churchs (all at 5th and Cleveland too)
ever since KFC changed their recipie to make it healthier I don't really like it as much. and all 3 places leave it too dried out for me. I see lots of threads for BBQ, sushi, steak, and what-not, but last night I had some KFC and am left disappointed.
I'll even settle for some good rotissourie chicken that falls off the bone.

i had some pretty good cuban chicken the other night at starliner diner in hilliard, but they had no idea what a cuba libre was. i like church's a lot.

that looks good, but I'm talking like for a bucket of chicken and some potato wedges. like you would take out on a boat or to a picnic.

G. Michael's came to my mind too. It's delicious.
I really can't think of a cheap place though. If you're ever passing through Athens, make a stop at Miller's Chicken...I'll be expecting a thank you card afterwards. ;)

Barley's (the one on high street) had drool-worthy fried chicken on the menu last year. I am sad that it is no longer on the menu. They have great BBQ chicken at the other location, but it's not the same.

That sucks.. I always wondered what happened to that place... The catfish wasn't bad either.. not sure how good the crack was..
Now if they could bring back Paradise Foods Jamacan/African carry out over at Main and James.. I remember the days of going over and getting my curry goat and jerk chicken on at 3am.. ;_;

So to sum it up, Columbus does not have any good takeout buckets of chicken.
I want to thank everyone for not trying to mention cluck-u chicken/ crazy chicken/cluck a doodle do, though it is tasty with their honey glaze, it is often dried out and overcooked, not moist and plump like one wants.
if anyone is ever in Warren, this is the chicken standard everyone should set their tongues by http://buenavistacafe.biz/ I've yet to encounter anything quite as good as fara as fried chicken goes.

Hrmm, I could be down for this.... Considering how many Korena places there are around town, I could see Columbus carrying one of these...

I haven't tried this, so I don't know if it's hype or fo'rilla. Fro-Yo is something I need to be talked into... especially when there's a Jeni's nearby.
On the other hand, the Pinkberry jingle was done by L`Trimm.. that wins points in my book

Coincidently my dad just took my grandparents there for an early dinner last week, he said he'd read about it in the Dispatch.
He said it was horrible. Said he ordered some dark meat plate and the pieces were almost indistinguishable and the mashed potatoes tasted instant.

Wow, I didn't know its reputation spread that far!
I'll second this. It's in a one-stoplight town in the middle of the boondocks and you might spend more on gas to get there than you would on your meal, but dang if that isn't some good fried chicken.
And, if you have a more proletarian palate than our Mr. Hall, you might even be able to stomach some of the other country cooking fare there as well (mashed potatoes, corn, mixed veggies, the usual stuff you'd expect). :wink:
That said, if you're interested in take-out fried chicken specifically, even if Clark's were nearby, it might not be an option--not sure if they do that. My vague recollection is that they don't.

Yes, the mashed potatoes are instant. And the veg from a can. Avoid.
The chicken has always been fine or better - when it comes to the frying. The quality of the chicken is supermarket though. For my tastes, I'd rather have G Michael's any time since it comes from a better chicken and is made better.
