BCOZ wrote G Michaels for sure.Start with the shrimp & grits. Best app I've ever had
It is really enough food to be an entree... and so delicious! I get that with a salad, and it is the best bargain in fine dining in the city. Yum!

So where'd you eat damnit?
I had white castle!
I grilled ny strips.
Sauted some shrooms.
Made some white basmati.
And some brussel sprouts on the grill that came out really nicely.

Somertime and me hit up Rossi.

I'm guessing the original author ate and left town.
After all this talk about great restaurants, I headed to Alana's, myself. Met Michael and a friend there. Excellent fried green tomato app, superb chicken, some great local seasonal risotto... but I think the star of the show was this funky dessert drink, a coffee-flavored tequila liqueur with Jeni's salty caramel ice cream floating in it. WOW. Love that place.

I ran into Michael last night while rooting through my trunk looking for a pair of shoes (unsuccessfully). He told me about that dessert. It sounds amazing. Do want!!!

Where exactly is this Alana's place?? I must partake.
last night was apparently made for eating out. with all the rain finally subsiding, we hit the patio at Haiku (i give constant thumbs up to the seaweed salad) and then adjourned to Bodega for drinks on the patio.

Thanks, Bear. I added it to my short list...
It is well worth finding! In a town filled with great restaurants, Alana's is one of the best.
had chipolte then ended up at bodega after 10. that place blows. I don't know how people can stand that place other than it being trendy or being that you live in the neighborhood. service totally sucks. you have 3 women bartenders who never smiled, weren't very busy, yet made you wait for service. it gets too loud to talk and there is barely enough room to move around. I had a good time due to the company I was with, but seriously, I don't understand the draw. Is it because people want that cramped NYC feeling of tiny sidwalk and exclusivity if you can get a table on it? the music was ok, nothing you couldn't get anywhere else.
things I did like was that there was a HUGE guy there, maybe he was the barback, I dunno, but he was nice. he flagged a bartender for me when none were to be found behind the bar. that was the highpoint of my bodega experience.
(I used to bartend/serve/barback/bus so this isn't coming from just a one sided customer point of view)
Alright I have to try this Alana's sometime soon!

Right on, I've been wanting to hit this place for a while as well - ought to get a group of CU'ers together - next weekend?

Graduation weekend. Bad idea. They're already booked Saturday and not open Sunday. (Edit -- or did you mean the 14th/15th? I assumed you meant the 7th/8th. Regardless, they don't do Sundays.)
My advice, if you want to get some CUers introduced to Alana's, especially if people are worried about cost: Go on a Tuesday or Wednesday, go early, plan to have nothing but a glass of wine and an appetizer or two each, as an introduction to the place. Then head home and make a pasta dinner or something, or whatever. But people can at least try it, without breaking the bank, and if there are a fair number of people, they can sample different appetizers etc.

Went there on Tuesday and also had the awesome coffe-tequila salty caramel thing. YUM. I also had the buttermilk pie, which was delicious! And, since I just made butter, now I have buttermilk, and must try to duplicate the pie.

I guess it did sound like that eh.
Here's how it went down...
Michael = walking down Highland
Me = rooting in the trunk
We started chit chatting.
He asked if I like cider.
I said "but of course"
So he produced cans of Strongbow from his backpack which is nice because you know I like it in the can.
We sat on the bumper of my car and drank in the middle of Highland for an hour talking about food and restaurants.
I never found those damn shoes.
he is in my trunk now though. don't worry, i cut some air holes in the garbage bag i taped over his head
