... and always.
Nothing much. Just a giant bowl of udon, a plum and shiso roll, some tuna, a wakame salad, some cold soba noodles, genmaicha tea, hot sake, shrimp tempura, and lots of wasabi.
Oh yeah.

yeah, I would love some sushi! ;)
I want Akai Hana right now. :(
Me too, ALWAYS! Wish there was something downtown, like near the statehouse for lunch instead of the chinese places around. I could eat a spider roll right now.
Because of this thread I am now going to have to get some extra extra spicy General Tso
Could go for some somen. Haven't had that in forever.
Gaaaaaah. We've found a good Thai place, Mexican place, and Indian place but we're still trying to find a good Japanese place that's not super-expensive.
Kikyo is OK, but I pity the fool that rates it over my Akai Hana. :D
Okay, I've got to go write some love sonnets to Akai Hana.

Or Tensuke Market across the street...their carry out sushi is great too.
The Akai Hana Korean dishes look great. I love some bi bim bop.
Tensuke Market is good, fast and cheap.. It's also great for a fast meal on Saturdays when I go shopping...
BBQ'd eel over a bed of rice, please. And some chilled Sasaichi Junmai sake would be great.
The secret of Kikyo is to simply let Ox create for you. Don't order.
If you want more adherence to tradition, Kihachi is a better bet. We did my pre-Pelotonia meal at Kikyo and Ox is going beyond classic sushi/sashimi to crudo styles that are prevalent at high end places across the world. Use of mint and citrus with excellent fish, for example. He will also work in things like Kyoto style sushi which is a ball inside of the usual finger.
Akai Hana is nice and I've no complaints with it, but is not working at the same level as Kihachi or Kikyo.
A.

This is true. Akai Hana has been the repository of my soul for 10+ years, that is a totally different level.
I noticed they recently changed the carpet at Akai Hana, it used to be this fantastic deep blue-green-black color like the ocean at night, now it's some multi-tone, granite-like indoor/outdoor stuff. Still nice but it's just like when grandma changes the wallpaper without telling you first.
At Kihachi, I don't feel good enough to be there. At Kikyo, the decor makes me feel like I should be watching WKRP on the TVs---and there's TVs there. WTF? Great food, so if you are going for the food (which you probably are), Andrew is absolutely correct.
But at Akai Hana, I feel like I am slipping into a scalding hot salted tub, on a cold day, and I am drinking sake, and also Grandma just made a really kick ass meal and all is right with the world.
