GIL MANTERA'S PRTY DREAM
SPRING SHOW
w/ BLACK CANARY
w/ SUPERBIRD
Check out these two guys, Ultimate Donny and Gil Mantera. They're from Youngstown, Ohio. They're brothers. They're blonde, handsome, and strapping. They play rock-style music mixed with alternative-style. They're Gil Mantera's Party Dream.
The duo started rocking shows back and forth between the Youngstown and Columbus, Ohio scenes back in 2000, sharing stages with a variety of bands of different genres and dominating all. On the strength of their incredible live show and two self-released CDs, they grew to own a solid fan-base in every nook and cranny of the state of Ohio (which, believe it or not, is no easy goddamned task) and soon thereafter most of the Midwest.
By 2004, The Party Dream's storm had expanded to envelop most of the Northeast and even parts of the South. All the while honing their craft, their stage-presence and songwriting abilities had grown to monstrous proportions, thus generating interest from tastemakers, labels, and a whole bunch of other pretentious wing-dangs. Despite the influx of attention, the boys held fast and maintained course until the right men for the job approached them. Which brings us to Bloodsongs in 2006.
Gil Mantera's Party Dream are here for the long haul. Their songs, phenomenal live show, integrity, and the swagger and attitude of the members themselves make clear one thing: Gil Mantera's Party Dream is to pop music what Freddy Kruger is to supernatural creatures that haunt their victims' dreams - which is to say they set the goddamned standard.
w/ BLACK CANARY-
If you want to understand The Black Canary, first you must understand pop music's glorious past. This is a band bent on marrying art and popular music, fusing ideas as well as instrumentation of the late 1960's while at the same time, tying these moods of modern grace and melody to turnstiles of atmosphere and hooks. One could only define such a sound as retro futuristic, an all encompassing hybrid of pop's faded echoing sensibilities and the space created in sound to allow these hauntings to occur and transform. Last year the group achieved local and regional notoriety by being voted by the local Columbus music press as a Band to Watch for 2007. The band also participated in last years Virgin College Mega Tour, was a CMJ artist of the week for March 2007, was included on the May 2007 CMJ New Music Sampler and showcased at the 2007 CMJ Music Marathon in NYC.
w/ SUPERBIRD-
There was this 130 year-old building that needed a full-on rock band. This old Masonic Temple building demanded 60s/70s rock, but not songs that were ever written or recorded before. You see, it needed to open a certain gate (maybe to the star Eta Cassiopeiae A, 19.4 light-years away, or perhaps open a gate which establishes contact with Transgroup 2109.) Bryn, Andy and Joe thought they would help the old Masonic Temple with its unique problem. Bryn has this old Charger, so he hooked it to the building and green frost came out the Sure-Grip. We knew we had to call the band

Well since it is Gallery Hop night, probably not. A friend is coming down and I don't think he could handle a Gil Mantera show.

How much is this darned thing anyway? I keep looking and I can't find it.
Also, one of my ex's bands is playing.... :(
It wasn't a very cheery breakup, either.... more of a giant disaster of epic proportion :)

Anybody else make it to this show last night?
I'd never seen them before and it was interesting to say the least. Nice beats, fun atmosphere, and those guys are insane. Did you know a camel speaks 14 languages?
Wish they would've played a little be longer but I'll definitely make a point to see them again. It's an "experience" to say the least.

Yup, it was great!

Yeah, had a blast there. Much better than their last show we saw (where they were trashed before climbing on stage and kept accidentally unplugging equipment). I'm glad they played some new material too. Can't wait for the new album to be done.
