I think the point of this thread was to let people know about a show, not to simply take weak-ass pot shots at the band. go start a "Why Gil Mantera is a Novety" thread. or get yourself a blog. or apply at the Other Paper. http://www.theotherpaper.com/

Honestly, aren't all bands a novelty act of some sort? Every band only changes their shows up by so much, so no matter what band you're going to go see, you pretty much know what to expect in advance if you've seen them a few times before.
This applies to Gil Mantera just as much as it applies to Justin Timberlake or The Flaming Lips or Ozzy Osbourne or any other musical act.
I guess if you don't like the music of The Party Dream, you probably have no interest in going, but I personally enjoy their music and only see them maybe twice a year, so I typically get to hear some new songs when I go.
spoken like a true diplomat. I digress.
Yeah, they call me "The Fire Extinguisher"!!!
And by "they", I mean "nobody".
I have to admit that I was extremely disappointed in this show. Probably the least fun I've ever had watching the Party Dream.
Beforehand, Anne & I went to Victorian's Midnight Cafe to see our friends' band The Heartbreak Orchestra. They play a hybrid of folk, bluegrass, rock, and country. I usually find their sound hard to describe because I don't really listen to that type of music too much. Basically, they're 5 musicians onstage with around 15 instruments (acoustic guitars, bass, cello, mandolin, banjo, fiddle, harmonica, electric guitar, xylophone, tambourine and some other assorted hand-held percussion). Anyway, I was sort of anticipating this being the warm up for the night since they're kinda mellow and Gil Mantera throws beer at the crowd, but the Heartbreak Orchestra ended up being my highlight of the night. They charged no cover, were giving away copies of their new CD, and had a better overall stage presence than the Party Dream could drunkenly muster.
Thank you for the plug Walker! Sorry we didn't get to see you on your way out. There were lots of people and I was tangling with cords aplenty after the whole thing was over.
My bandmate Jeannine warned me of the first youtube clip at the top. Naturally, I clicked on it. But hey, who's afraid of a little speedo? I'm a man, I can take it.
Does this mean we're considered to be entertaining without chucking beers at our audience? Cool....
