Does anyone know why it seems like every Giant Eagle has a Columbus police officer posted outside? I never see them at any other grocery stores.

I saw them cuffing a young woman the other day with two cases of red bull "under" her cart. I can only assume she was lifting said red bull to feed her children.

Don't know why their presence is unique to GE, but I did see one break up a fight in the parking lot in GV.

Maybe they have a corporate policy for paying for police protection. Theft is a pretty big problem for grocery stores.

They're useless... A few years ago when it was Big Bear I had my radio stolen out of my jeep in broad daylite while the cop was sitting in the lot. I approached the cop and said "my radio just got stolen, can you help me out?" He just shrugged his shoulders and stated that it probably wouldn't do any good..... nice.

Nope, not unique to GE. Ghetto Kroger has at least one at all times. I think after 10ish there's 2 or 3. They are nice though. I've seen them help load groceries for elderlies and hot, young ladies (I do not judge a good deed!!). I like having someone with an ear on dispatch 100 yards away from my house.

Kroger on my side of town has a CPD officer.

I've seen one at the BD Kroger too. I don't think this is unique to GE.

Hmm, weirdness. I've ONLY ever seen them at the giggle.

Always one at my Kroger (Why does everyone in C-bus say Kroger's?) on Refugee. Pretty worthless though. They usually stand around talking with the female employees. My girlfriend's purse was snatched coming out the store one night and the d-bag could not be bothered to give chase, and only reluctantly did he bother to even call it in.

For all the good this will do you... :? They are off-duty and I doubt they will be dispatched anywhere, in case of trouble. They drive their own vehicles there anyway.

Why does everyone in Columbus say C-bus? :P
Seriously though, I prefer to say K-Roger.

The term "ghetto-Kroger" always brings back such fond memories of life at King and High.

This complaint had been levied before - and maybe this response was given, too. In any case. Kroger is a last name. As is Meijer. Are there any examples of this being done with non-proper-named stores?

lots of places have 'special duty' officers they pay to hang out. They actually do have radios and can and will bust people. That being said, some are very obviously better than others or care more about what they're doing.
I would recommend if you get the brush off from one of these guys when you have a valid complaint or problem or see them ignore something then you should talk to the store manager and tell them to request another officer. There are plenty who want the extra cash. No harm in asking the bar to be raised.

I often go to the Targets. Of course, I check the sale first on the Google...

I usually go to Barnes and Noble(s) and Wal-Mart (there's no "s" at the end of Wal-Mart), and occasionally, GE...and if I'm home...Krogers...
I dont know why there's an "s" in Meijer or Kroger. They've become an afterthought after Giant Eagle moved to town and killed Big Bear.

We had the REAL ghetto Kroger downtown at Livingston/Parsons. The littered parking lot! The odor of food past its sell-by date! The filthy floors! The lack of clerks!
But there was always a special duty cop wandering around.

Oh yeah, that place was AWFUL!
I remember one Halloween running out of candy, dashing to the Giant Eagle (maybe Big Bear at the time)...they were out too! Ended up having to go to that Kroger, and swore it was the last time I'd ever go inside...and it was.
