Ladies and gentlemen of Columbus…whatever you have planned on Saturday, well, it frankly isn't Massive unless it involves supporting Columbus against Toronto FC at Crew Stadium at 4:00 PM! So dust off your sharpest black and yellow attire, fire up your noisemakers, honor your Columbus hooligan heritage, and bring your friends (or come make some new friends), because the bright and brilliant, fresh from the preseason practice fields Columbus Crew starts the brand new MLS season against those less-than-respectful throngs from Toronto. If you support Columbus, join us. Now is the time to have our boys’ backs.
Both home matches last year against Toronto were amazing examples of the exciting growth of North American soccer culture. The Crew has never lost to Toronto, but the Trillium Cup (the rivalry trophy that Columbus and Toronto play for every year) matches are always competitive, and the rivalry between the fans is intense and endlessly entertaining. Last year’s series against the Reds was marked by an amazing 3-2 come-from-behind victory in the second home match, with Jason Garey of the Crew scoring a header off a world-class Frankie Hejduk pass in the 92nd minute. It was arguably the best play in all of North American soccer last year, and the feeling of excitement in Crew Stadium at that moment was like nothing you will find in Columbus outside of Ohio Stadium on Michigan day.
This year the Crew are seeking an unprecedented third straight Supporters Shield: the trophy which represents the best record over the course of the 30 match season and one of the two major trophies in MLS. The Crew continues to be the best side with the best supporters in Major League Soccer, and what better time to get onboard than the first match against one of our rivals? The weather is going to be great, the supporters groups will be in form, and the team is ready to go.
Visit the Crew homepage for tickets.
