German Village opens its doors and garden gates for the German Village Society’s 53rd annual tour on Sunday, June 24, 2012. Visitors are invited for this day-long celebration of renowned designs, enchanting gardens, and award-winning restorations. Guests may meander through the open sites at their own pace, while stopping to shop and dine at our businesses throughout the village. Performances and many more surprises are scheduled throughout the day.
The day is an effort to provide our 6,000+ tour guests a glimpse of quality historic preservation and innovative design in the home and gardens on tour. We think of the event as a “tour of inspiration.” This year’s Tour includes a peek inside one of the architecture styles for which German Village is most known: the story-and-a-half brick cottage. Brick cottages are the earliest building form in the Village, and feature gabled roof lines, limestone foundations and slate roofs. You’ll see how a handful of homeowners have transformed these seemingly simple frames into opulence and chic, modern living. You’ll be inspired, no matter the size of your own space!
