Ohio Gas Prices Continue To Rise
Tuesday February 21, 2012 3:39 PM
COLUMBUS, Ohio - You've likely seen it, heard about it, or experienced it for yourself as oil prices have spiked to the highest level in nine months. They are up nearly nine percent since the beginning of the year. Analysts say the jump in price isn't so much a demand issue, as simply fear over a shortage, reported ONN's Denise Alex.

Obama: No Magic Bullet To Lower Gas Prices
By: ANNE GEARAN | Associated Press
Published: February 25, 2012
President Barack Obama says there is no easy answer to the problem of rising energy prices, dismissing Republican plans to address the problem as little more than gimmicks.
"We know there's no silver bullet that will bring down gas prices or reduce our dependence on foreign oil overnight," Obama said Saturday in his weekly radio and Internet address. "But what we can do is get our priorities straight and make a sustained, serious effort to tackle this problem."

Yet official policy is doing many things to drive the price of energy upwards. Perhaps the Obama admin should admit this rather than lying about it don't ya think? "Getting priorities straight" first involves recognizing and identifying underlying causes.
Seems like gas prices often rise during political campaigns. Perhaps we need to end elections?

Gasoline hits $3.72 per gallon
February 28, 2012
By CHRIS KAHN, Associated Press
NEW YORK (AP) — The price of gasoline is continuing its steady climb. Drivers are paying the highest price ever for the end of February. The national average now sits at $3.72 per gallon, up 30 cents from a month ago and 35 cents from the same time last year. Prices are highest in Hawaii, Alaska, California, New York and Connecticut.

$3.75 when I left work. I am looking forward to getting rid of the car again.
In rural West Central Ohio, we hit $4.03 today. I need the Dow to crash again because at least gas prices crash with it.

Wall Street greed fueling high gas prices
What's the cause? Forget what you may have read about the laws of supply and demand. Oil and gas prices have almost nothing to do with economic fundamentals. According to the Energy Information Administration, the supply of oil and gasoline is higher today than it was three years ago, when the national average for a gallon of gasoline was just $1.90. Meanwhile, the demand for oil in the U.S. is at its lowest level since April of 1997.
A decade ago, speculators controlled only about 30% of the oil futures market. Today, Wall Street speculators control nearly 80% of this market. Many of those people buying and selling oil in the commodity markets will never use a drop of this oil.

I'm no market analyst, but my assumption is they just buy it out and boost the prices with the rise in stocks as they expect a mental boost from the public in traveling AKA buying fuels as it portrays a "stronger economy", and then obviously the side dishes of businesses with rising stock investing more into their business infrastructure which obviously incurs excess fuel costs across the board for whatever miscellaneous reasons you can come up with for a given business.
