Ok, I'm embarrassed to admit this, but I've lived in the area for almost 2 years and I've never been to Gallery Hop.
My brother and his European girlfriend are in town and I suggested we go. He asked me what it's like and I had no idea what to tell him!
So, can you guys help me out? What can we expect? What shouldn't we miss? Anything not worth our time?

The beautiful thing about gallery hop is that it's easy.
Get yourself to the Short North via bus or cab if possible, so you don't have to fight traffic or parking. Then, walk around and go in and out of buildings. If you plan on eating, I would suggest getting into a place before 10, because when most of the galleries close at 10 then people flock to the restaurants because they have no place else to go.

You might stop up just north of 2nd Ave at the Mahan Gallery..... I am having a show where you can all win prizes.....

If you are going to drive and have to park, might I suggest near the corner of Goodale & Fourth. There's free street parking here, and you can walk the short distance along Goodale to High Street and it puts you right at the south end of the Short North.
You can then make the trek up one side of High and back down the other. If you want to go the whole span I'd suggest going all the way up to 5th (about a mile) and then back down the opposite side of the street.
As TimFitz said, you'll be popping in and out of the stores, art galleries, and anything else that strikes your fancy. There's a lot going on, but take your time. I'd suggest getting there early. If you want to hit as much as possible, I'd spend maybe four-five hours there, so get there around 5-6pm.

Also, Jeni's Ice Cream opened yesterday, so you can check out her new place in the Short North and get some ice cream on this humid summer day. They have art work in the back, so it counts as a gallery stop like other businesses.

Thanks everyone! We had a great time, but I didn't make it to Mahan! I'm so disappointed! I remembered 2nd Ave. and we wandered around there looking for it. When we didn't see it, we headed back down High St. It stinks to be a newbie!
Next time, I guess. There are some truly talented artists in this city!

I'm glad that you popped your Gallery Hop cherry last night.
It sucks that you missed Mahan. That was the best exhibit of the night ("Come on Down"), with an homage to game shows (they even had a CD of Game Show themes playing). I won me two gold medals, lol.
OAL was 2nd to Mahan, IMO, last nite. But I only went to a handful of places, b/c I stopped by MadLab first, and got to the Short North right before 8. OAL had this exhibit of these calendar paintings and the holidays on those said days, plus a Periodic table of phobias. It was pretty awesome.
I always look forward to it every month, b/c there's something different...
