I'm trying to figure out a spot to take my soon-to-be 11 year old son for his birthday. We eat out fairly often and do a yearly Try A New Cuisine dinner before the first day of school, so he's been exposed to a lot of different places and cuisines. It makes finding a spot for a special dinner a little more tricky though!
We've done Japanese steakhouses in his younger years. Cafe Bella is his favorite restaurant these days with Ying's Teahouse is a close second. Suggestions are appreciated!

I believe the Taco Truck tours are on hiatus until Spring. An Alt Eats tour would be great.
If you can go out on a weeknight, I would highly recommend doing a tasting menu at Alana's. You can work with her on the number of dishes, likes/dislikes and I bet Kevin would be glad to create some NA cocktails for him.
San Su is also a great idea. Our (now 11 yr old) loves it.

The other place he loves is Fujiyama Japanese Steak House not to be confused with the one downtown that puts the orange crap on everything. This is on Cleveland Ave and is always real nice and quiet. Added bonus they have Koi Ponds Inside and the ladies there are so dam nice.

I think you should try Japanese Oriental on N High Street.
It is essentially a Korean place with Sushi. Seems like they enjoy the Asian food so why not dive deeper into that?
You can view the menu here, it's a bit of a adventure as the descriptions often make everything sound the same. Plus with each dish you get like 5 to 10 mini plates of random food which is fun to try. You will find Korean food has a very different flavor base then Chinese or Japanese. I'd recommend this over the Korean BBQ places as those are a little more "Americanized". They do make a killer Kalbi (Korean BBQ) so you can still try that.

I'd suggest narrowing your search to the Downtown area. Lots of great choices and the meters are free on Sundays.
