Nite Owl Theatre returns!

From directors Mike McGraner & Matt Parker in association with The Backlot and Never The Luck Productions comes the monthly return of Fritz The Nite Owl as he takes you back to a time when late-night television was more than just infomercials. Complete with vintage commercial breaks and Fritz's famous bumpers, Episode 01: Night Of The Living Dead will make its debut at the Grandview Theatre on Saturday, October 30th at midnight. Admission is free.

A documentary entitled, The Owl (directed by Mike McGraner and produced by Dino Tripodis' Never The Luck Productions) will be released next year.

This is cool. Very cool. It looks like it will be a seriously fun event.

The only thing that would be better is for another radio station to pick up Fritz as a jazz DJ again. THAT would be awesome. Sunday nights (and by extension, my weekdays via time-shifted listening) are just not the same without his show.

A Fritz variety show would be pretty awesome.

Pick a classic B movie and some jazz bands and that would be aces.

Will Fritz be there in person or will this be a broadcast of one of his shows from back in the day? Either way it sounds like a great Halloweeny time.

With all of their digital side-channels, I think that it would be great if one of the local stations (maybe WOSU) would give Fritz an midnight movie show. The movies could be cheap and/or public domain, and the rest could be filled with whatever Fritz wanted to do (maybe some jazz at intermission). I can't imagine that it would cost much, but I bet something like that would at least bring in more viewers than some random syndicated show (or the 30,000th airing of an Eagles concert on WOSU).

To catnfiddle, Fritz isn't sure if he can be there or not. The episodes are brand new and we have been shooting them recently. They will keep the exact same style and format that 10tv had years ago complete with vintage commercials and a Star Spangled Banner sign off.

To Talcott, I would love to have these episodes shown on a station. We are looking into that now. For those who can't make the Grandview screenings once a month, you will be able to watch the episodes and purchase dvd's of the show at http://www.fritzlives.com

Oh, and by the way, some people have asked me if the date of the launch and screening is October 30 or 31st due to seeing two dates around the web.

The screening and web episode launch is Saturday, October 30th at midnight (technically, October 31st, 12am). I hope this clears things up ;)

Ah, I get it, this is not live - Fritz records the bits where he would have been live in the old days for Night Owl Theater. Or I assume that it was done live back in the old days - guess that could have been taped also.

Like michaelcoyote, I would like it best if Fritz were their live and maybe had a jazz band, but that would be risking all the snafus you can have with a live performance.

Oh it would be nice to have a live show, but this has plenty of charm too. At any rate, I'm excited.

At GW, it would be great to see Fritz host a film live, but then we would not be able to do the cheesy effects and such that gave Nite Owl Theatre such great charm back in the day. This way, the options are limitless. But we're not looking to update the show to modern day just yet. For the nostalgia factor, Fritz and I would like to keep the show as true to what it used to be as we can. If it ends up feeling like you are watching a late-night broadcast from the 70's or 80's that you taped off 10tv, then we have done our job :)

The TV does not do justice to Fritz's voice. Many years ago I happened to be in the Linworth bookstore when he was filming a spot for them, and it's amazing to hear his voice fill a room.
