Ok, so I want to make sure and give Wendy's props for this event. Unlike the other shameless marketing that's gone on with free food downtown lately Wendy's has taken it a step up and above. First thing I noticed was that while you got the burger free you had to make a donation to the Dave Thomas Foundation for a frosty - good move - I like that. Second was that I bumped into my friend Kathy Signorino (OAC coordinator) and she was there with local artist Helma Groot. Turns out that Wendy's, as a part of this tour, is paying 1 local artist at each of the 23 city stops $2500 to do an interpretation of "Wendy" in an artistic medium. The nonprofit art organization which sponsors said artist is then up for the chance at $25,000 in the form of a grant from Wendy's. That is one hell of a gesture. I'm not sure if there will be a public vote on which artist/group wins at the end or not but if there is then we'll all want to get to voting. Here's some pics of the event as it's happening. I didn't choose to wait in line but hey, Statehouse correspondent Bill Cohen did! Sorry, can't help but take "celeb" shots when given the chance.
