What do you think about this idea? I presented to the YP commission and a few others. It's an idea that could be kind of neat to implement, but what do you think? I'd love your comments- but read the links to get a good idea.

neat idea. my concern would be diversity of people living there--ie, not all engineers, etc. i feel like other professionals such as teachers, social workers, etc get overlooked when we have great, innovative ideas too.
what am i saying, just give me a free house. i have so many good ideas.

Agreed.
I think it is just the economic development tool that's needed in Columbus. Free housing for innovation (defined diversely) would revolutionize our city as a true innovator. I need many people to help get the idea off the ground. Wanna help me raise 15 million bucks to give free housing instead of building new roads (and 50 million dollar bridges, etc). Talk about putting Columubus on the world map!

Jesus, this sounds great... except I graduated... 6 years ago?

Otherwise, though, sweetness!
I wonder if it would create a climate where these folks would blast past me creatively thanks to their free digs. Yes, it's true, I'm jealous of hypothetical human beings.
But I know I could kick a lot more creating ass if I didn't have to work to get a roof over my head.

I designed it for graduates, but it really could be for anyone.
I envision a "Columbus Idol" Contest to win five years rent to be held at at the Ohio or Palace Theater. Les Wexner, please write. Huntington Bank, yes, I know you gave millions for a baseball stadium, but come on and look at his. Hey, Brian Ellis at Nationwide. Hello. Let's do this damnit.

Well, I'm in. :D
Where do I send my essay (sound of sharpening pencils)?

And presentation.
Well, we've got to get a fund-raising effort, some land (Nationwide-- Kyle Katz-- hello?), and community backing.
Can you see the nationally-televised Freedigs contest? The Freedigs reality show? The economic impacts? We would be the kick-assest city ever! (Ever!)

seriously.
stop we need to stop using the term c-bus.
it's annoying as shit and makes the speaker sound like a drunken OSU frat boy.
your idea is awesome though.

i see nothing wrong with the term c-bus... and ive never been a drunken osu fratboy.
but yea, its a good idea... in a perfect world. and who said engineers are creative?! pfft!
edit: oh yea, after checking the site i wouldn't refer to columbus as c-bus... i thought we were just talking about casual conversation on the interwebz.

Yes, God told me a long time ago that I'm not permitted to use the term "C-Bus". He also told me I'm not allowed to wear mascara.

What's everyone's take on 'the Bus' rather than 'C-Bus' (conversational-style)? I've noticed it picking up steam lately...

have you ever been around college freshman or sophomores who refer to their respective Podunk towns (no offense katieb :) ) as "the ville" or something? Not only is it unnecessary, probably confusing and sound like an OC ripoff, it demonstrates a bit of a lack of knowledge about just how big and diverse our world is.
frankly, i have a feeling I would be against almost any slang term or shortening of our city's name. I can get by with COLS. but that's a utility term for insiders.
Not that this is necessarily the test, but picture yourself going up to anyone in new york, and telling them you're from 'the bus'.
After you have to explain that it's just the cutesy nickname some of the younger local-yokles use, you may be inclined just to call our fair city, Columbus, Ohio, (dumbass!)

so do you also take offense when people refer to New York, New York as NYC? because i sure dont.

How about Philly? Or LA? Or Vegas? Or Chi-town?

YES! Chi-town, HATE THAT.
Chi-town and C-Bus...BLACKLISTED.

I'm from Lima, and 'Slima' is really gathering steam. It's very fitting...

This idea is absolutely brilliant.

How about "The Nati?"

Now derogatory nicknames, that's a whole other ballgame. In my opinion, those are almost always acceptable, as long as they are in good taste. Like "Crakron" for example.
