Denny's is beyond subpar and everybody who has eaten at one more than twice knows this. IHOP or bust for that genre of eatery.You must be eating at different IHOPs than I have. I used to think that place was awesome when I was a kid, now in my return trips I've been vastly disappointed. I will say the cornmeal pancakes at TeeJay's are the bomb, however.
One does not go to IHOP for the pancakes, despite the name... one goes for the Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs.

I remember eating at the Denny's up on the north side (Westerville?) nearly 10 years ago and remember it being good. They had this wonderfully unhealthy dish called the "Big Texas Chicken Fajita Skillet" that always delivered.
My last Denny's experience was at a location near the University of Louisville in Summer of 2007. It was one of the grossest dining experiences of my life. I don't know if it was just this one location, or the fact that my standards had changed over the years, but I've had little desire to go to any Denny's since then.

+1 for Waffle House. Although I don't see that happening. Last I checked (which was a few years ago) their business model fed off truck-driving traffic, and I doubt they're going to be altering too much to set up urban locations that would complete miss out on that late-night demographic.

Denny's, like Steak n Shake, depends on the location. I loved the Denny's at Ashland. Of course I probably see it with rose colored glasses since everything closed at 10 PM, except Denny's and the McDonald's drive through. Still, some great evenings were had when I would drink a pot of coffee, write a paper till 4 am, drive to Denny's for breakfast, come back to catch an hour or two of restless sleep and wake to print the paper off and turn it in.

To be fair, a majority of my Denny's experiences involved cleaning off my "phat pants" of warehouse grime and pounding carafes of Orange Juice.
However, on every eating occasion I've had there, I've felt like my tastebuds were violated.

I have still never been to a Ihop and would like to go at some point.
But on the note of not ordering pancakes My boyfriend travels a lot he said he went to a Ihop in another state and got a steak and eggs dish and said it was one of the best steaks he has ever had. I know I was confused too I thought he was hallucinating lol

For what ever reason, 24 hour spots just don't survive in Columbus. We used to have several Denny's, Bob Evans used to be 24 hours, we had Olentangy Inn, a few other options.

Yeah, but we've still got a variety of other 24 hour options. A few independent places, the aforementioned TeeJay's locations, and probably two dozen Waffle Houses just to name the ones I'm aware of. It's just that none of them are around downtown.

I remember back in the day- The Clock (where Elevator is now) did a post bar closing breakfast menu for a year or so. That was when I was hanging out at either the Garage or Wall 3-4 nights a week. We took advantage of that breakfast quite a few times. Alas it did not last though. I think it must not be cost efficient to staff a place if you can't get a consistent amount of customers EVERY morning. Clearly it works alright for Houndogs though...
