Not sure what the special occasion is, but...
Chipotle stores offering free burritos
Chipotle Mexican Grill says free burriitos will be offered from 5 to 8 p.m. today at these central Ohio locations:

I just heard them talking about this on the radio... sounds like another 27 cent pizza problem? on the other hand.. don't they do free ones special days anyway, maybe they have it down and will not have the problems.

Yeah, this is a pretty regular promotion for Chipotle - usually it's advertised pretty heavily as "Free Burrito Day", though they've also done the thing where you have to "dress up as a burrito" to get one free (often folks just stuck some tinfoil on their shirt/head).
Lines can get pretty long, but I don't recall things getting ugly.

I don't recall it ever getting ugly. the first year they did it lines were no problem. ever since, I'd rather just pay $5.60 and avoid the lines.

Papa John's did it a month or so ago for stores around Ohio because someone in one of their DC franchises printed & gave away some shirts that had the Papa John's logo on them calling LeBron James a crybaby during the Washington-Cleveland NBA playoffs series.

Here what 10TV says and why they are giving free tacos:
COLUMBUS, Ohio â€” In an effort to ease the pain at the pump, Chipotle Mexican Grill will be giving away free burritos, tacos or bowls on Wednesday.
The food will be offered at Columbus-area stores from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Only one item is allowed per customer and no fax orders will be accepted.
The company said it wants customers to be able to spend the money they'd usually spend on dinner on gasoline instead, The Columbus Dispatch reported.
"Columbus is a great market for us," said Chipotle spokeswoman Crickett Karson. "Our customers, many who are younger, are suffering at the pump. We thought, 'We have a little extra in the kitty, and let's give back.'"

Kudos to Chipotle. That assembly line they have going on is unbreakable!

We should exchange numbers some time! I strolled there as well. From what I hear, this was the location to cash in on this deal. On the flipside, because it was the least busy location, we're probably no closer to them broadening their Nationwide-employee-lunch-only hours...

I thought the Bexley one would be a safe bet. Boy, was I wrong. I was two blocks away in the longest line of cars I've ever seen and could even see the line of people out the door. I opted for some home cookin' instead. I was bummed though, because I was really craving some Chipotle deliciousness...

Then I brought up the rear there, just before 8 p.m. My wait was about (ok, exactly) 30 minutes.
