I had read about this in the paper a couple of years ago, and wasn't even sure if it was going ahead or not. Apparently it is almost ready to open. May 22nd is the date. It looks pretty nice, although I don't know if I will ever go myself, should bring in some money and people to the area:

Don't forget all the chlorine and other chemicals used to make that bit o' urine a little safer and keep the bacteria out.
I actually don't really have a problem with public pools - after all, we live in Columbus, not many other swimming options around... I don't know that I'll be rushing out to the waterpark though - hasn't really been my thing for quite some time, and we've already got Wyandot Lake anyway. (Though the indoor thing does sound intruiging....)

Who's this mysterious "they" and why are they using metric volume units and then dividing it up with a fraction? Shouldn't it either be .0833 liters (or maybe 83.33 mL) of pee or 1/12 quart (or maybe 2 4/5 oz) of pee?

I swim for an hour, twice a week at the Columbus Rec center off of hunter. It's always a bit hot, but not bad for cheap.

Depending on the price I might check it out. I live right up Hamilton Road and we don't belong to a local pool. I'm going to have to get more information from them.

Where is this at and what's the cost? I've been looking for a good place to swim. Do they have diving boards too? ;)

It's kind of in Vic Village, 5th. and Hunter.

And yes they have a 1m and a 3m diving board. A very prestigous diving academy actually practices there.

Oh, and I'm not sure on the cost. It is cheap though.
I paid $50 to join the Masters "team" there, which pretty much just gets everyone out of the pool so I can swim laps un-interrupted by kids and people messing around.

OK... my friend called for me yesterday. They are not doing day passes. You have to reserve a room to go to the water park. $125 for a Saturday. I live right up the street. I'm not getting a room, but for the first few months that's all they are doing. :roll: Whatever. I'll drive to the Great Bear (wolf?) Logde if I'm going to go someplace and stay.

A child floating on the Lazy River at Fort Rapids Waterpark Resort in Columbus who wants a bite to eat can exit the ride, walk over to a concession stand, buy some food and then pay to play video games without having to use cash or a credit card.
In fact, the child doesn't have to carry anything to spend money at the resort. All he or she has to do is swipe a watch-like device on his or her plastic wristband to pay for a sandwich or a T-shirt from the gift shop, for example.
Or, if mom and dad want to know where their son or daughter is, all they have to do is swipe their wristbands past a device at one of the many kiosks in the resort and their child's location will be displayed on a map on a monitor at the kiosk.
Since it opened in July, Fort Rapids has been offering radio frequency identification and point-of-sale technology to all of its guests and the response has been "fantastic," Quinn said.

I went to one of these earlier in the year up by ceader point. I think the term kid oriented is a major understatement. It should be called grand rapids wet daycare. Don't get me wrong if you are a parent then this is your place. hours of distractions for the kids from a video arcade to a fully mechanical performance by life sized characters. However for anyone over 12 without kids it's a nightmare. I will also say that with that many kids the pee to water ratio was at least a 50/50 mix. Pretty nasty if you ask me. I do think it will bring people here in the winter months when nothing else in columbus would.

The Holiday Inn and Suites that is connected to the park had an average occupancy rate of 45.4 percent for the first seven months of last year, far lower than the 67.5 percent occupancy reported for all of 2007 by other East Side hotels and those in the airport area.

Those people running it must be seriously inept. Water parks like this are booming thoughout the US, especially the Northern US. How could January & February be the slowest months for an indoor climate-controlled water park? This company saw the numbers from other parks, and jumped in hoping to make easy money. IIRC, they had no previous experience. I've been to the Great Wolf in Sandusky, and it was a lot of fun, but would be an odd choice of recreation without kids.
Also, what's the deal with their crappy electronic sign? Anyone seen it? It looks like its run by an 80's era graphics program, and the colors suck. Haven't they heard of Da Nite Signs (local company)? Their sign off I-71 South is pretty nice.
