Bexley considers allowing food carts

A growing food trend might be wheeling its way into Bexley soon. The City Council has drafted an ordinance to allow pushcarts that, if passed, would open the door for transient food vendors typically more prevalent on college campuses, in larger downtowns and at sporting events.

“It seems to be a hot trend. It’s something that might bring people and add to businesses,” said Jed Morison, a council member who is on the committee handling the legislation.

This is a no brainer. Food carts have been the best thing to come to the Columbus food scene in the last 10 years.

Bexley council votes to OK food-cart sales

Food-cart vendors now will be allowed in Bexley. The City Council approved the ordinance 6-1 this week, with the single “no” vote from Councilman Richard Sharp. The measure has been modified from its original version, now making it a requirement for every vendor to get approval from the council before operating. They must also meet food-service health regulations and obtain inspection reports from Franklin County Public Health.

Council approves Bexley’s first mobile food-cart vendor

The first mobile food cart will soon be coming to Bexley, offering steamed bagel sandwiches. Bexley City Council approved the city’s first food cart vendor, the Short North Bagel Deli, at its March 13 regular meeting.

A bagel cart in Bexley in not news. More bagels are consumed a single day in Bexley than an entire year in Northland. :]

Considering Bexley Schools have open campus and there's a shuttle that takes students to any fast food joint in the area during the high school lunch hour, having carts within walking distance seems like a terrific alternative. Now I miss subbing there.
