This is from the 'Fans of the Short North Newsletter':
"Gallery Hop will have food vendors starting in September!
Leslie's Creperie Food Cart will be at the Ibiza Lot. They are one of five vendors you can enjoy while you stroll through the district. Leslie's offers a choice of sweet and savory crepes. The crepes are left on the grill longer than at other creperies resulting in a crispier crepe. Two of their savory offerings: the feta, egg and spinach and the new vegetarian crepe."Posted 1 year ago # -
Greetings!
After long consideration and deliberation with our member committee, the SNBA will invite 5 select Food Vendors to participate for 6 months trial period at 5 assigned locations in the Short North. These 5 food vendors have received an invitation. For September Hop - you'll see Leslie's Creperie and Jeni's Ice Cream. And in October we plan to add Lucky Ladle and Foodie Cart!
At the committee's discretion 5 areas have been selected that will increase energy and activity and that won't impede traffic flow. The fee will be $50/month. The SNBA will pole each of the invited food carts along the way for feedback of Location, Sales, and Crowd to re-evaluate any necessary guidelines changes after the first 6 mo. trial period.
Designated Locations:
• Ibiza Lot
• UDF
• Fireproof
• Byzantium
• StonewallGuidelines:
• Must attach a picture of your cart & proof of your Green Health
Inspection Sticker
• Must be a unique, out-of-the-ordinary, culinary inventiveness,
artisan, cultural foods that best compliment the neighborhood
• Must have a Mobile Food Vendors License
• Must have Green Health Inspection Sticker
• Must be respectful of neighborhood and business community
o Green/Recyclable to-go materials - paper/plastic/aluminum
o Cannot take parking meters
o Must Clean the designated area
o Cannot leave grease spots
o Cannot use storm-water drains for dumping anything especially
grease.
o Food carts need to supply sufficient waste receptacles. Food carts
need to dispose of their trash at their own expense, not use SID
bins placed on the sidewalks.
• 6 Month Commitment
o September 4th, October 2nd, November 6th, December 4th, January
1st, February 5th
o Fee of $50 will be due the 15th of month prior
o The feedback process will be critical for the 1st 6 months, and
vendors must share their nightly gross sales date with the SNBA for
any adjustments necessary after the 6 mo. trial periodThanks everyone for your support in this new initiative.

I like the rethinking of the SNBA rules as well as the thoughtful use of available space. Nobody's toes should feel bruised, and I hope this will lead to a slow but steady expansion.

Yep, welcome change.

this makes me more interested in making the trip across the river to the Hop. I only go very occasionaly (for 20 years now), but this has my interest.

Fantastic...especially if the Hop is super busy, and a wait at a restaurant is a good 1-2 hours.

It is a nice alternative for some to waiting at an overcrowded restaurant and allows more time to enjoy the arts. It worked out well at the Grandview Hop, nice to see the SNBA following suit. It is a welcome change.

Oh this sounds perrrrfect! I can't wait to see what other carts are going to be out there. I hope one of the taco trucks manages to get in. Mmmmm.

Yeah, a taco truck and maybe the cupcake ladies would be sights for sore (art overloaded) eyes :)

Yeah those cupcake ladies were awesome at the gview hop.

Finally! ;-) Hopefully, this "experiment" is a roaring success, and we will see more in the future!

Rockmastermike and cc mentioned it above, but we had 3 babes and a baker cupcake truck and Fusion Cafe at the Grandview Hop this past Saturday, and it was a huge hit. The people loved it, and the restaurants seemed to embrace it as well.
I think the SNBA will find that this is a plus for everyone, and make it a regular thing. The explosion of both quantity and exposure for food trucks/carts in this city is a highlight of 2010, and its good for all.

I agree that one of the most positive things in Columbus development in 2010 will be the impact of food carts on the dining/food scene. It is refreshing and highly creative. Can't wait to see what some bright eyed foodie brings next :). I would love to see this come to its full potential in the Short North.

Thanks for the details on this Diesha! Sounds like a thoughtful approach to a solution that should work out for everyone involved. :) Nice work SNBA.

We are now three (?) Hops into this trial run. What is the take so far?
At the Holiday Hop, I think all I saw was Ray Ray's which we certainly enjoyed. Were there others I missed? Are they applications for all five slots for the Hops? How is this working out?
A.
