There seem to be a lot of people talking about how bad gluten is and blaming it for everything from general malaise to autism in children. I understand that gluten is bad for people who have actual celiac disease, but is it really unhealthy for people who don't have it?
Haven't humans been eating gluten for quite some time now? Is it possible to have a gluten "allergy" without having celiac disease or is this just another fad diet?
Are food allergies actually on the rise or is there just increased awareness around them? From what I can find, opinions seem to differ, as well as theories on the cause.

Well I know quite a few who people have a very adverse digestive reaction to gluten if you know what I mean. That being said, there could be something to it as humans have only been eating gluten for the past 5000 years or so. This is in contrast to meat and vegetables which have been consumed by homo sapiens since they became said species. I wouldn't necessarily blame autism on it, but there is a logical reason for people to have difficulty processing the stuff.
