Ohhhhh, good point. ;-) I don't know, I just think we are stuck with Easton. Nearby Gahanna and New Albany factor in as well. Lets agree to disagree on it and in 5-10 years we can come back to this post and see what happens. City Center... I hadn't thought of that. Hmmmm.

Agreed. The fact that there are two Macy's in there already suggests that they can't get another anchor tenant. I was also shocked at the number of kiosks in the mall. It was interesting to see two places selling cel phone accessories and two watch repair places. I think that mall is going to need a major overhaul to stay competitive if, as you say Walker, a mall opens up between Dublin and Marysville.

yeah, agreed. I picked easton as a comparison because, like the continent, it was designed to be more than a mall- little village-esque streets, residences, theater, blah blah...

I'd have to really dig, but way back when the first agency I worked for did all their photoshoots in and around the Continent and I'm positive I have some fantastic photos laying around. 80's hair/outfits PLUS Continent all in one.

Yeah, but one thing that Easton has that the Continent didn't is a local owner worth $2.6 billion. I think Easton will under go plenty of renovations before Wexner will let it slide into oblivion. I'm not so sure if Tuttle's owner (Simon Property Group) in Indianapolis has the same long-term personal interest in their business investment here.

So I did stop down this past weekend and walked around with ksquared. The actual French Market building is gone. The shopping area is pretty barren and needs some work. However, with a little TLC, "something" could be done with the area. Either way, it was fun to walk around and think about the good times.

This area is suppose to be upper middle class.I moved to this area in 1993 and shoped at the continent,ate at damons. why did it go bad? I was told this would always be a good area.being this close to worthington should have prevented this area from going bad. I feel the continent has potential,some one has to make it happen. I am looking to move out of this area.

Unfortunately I don't think that part of Northland has even 'bottomed out' yet even with its proximity to worthington. With all the articles discussing urban decline spreading to suburbia the neighborhood is a pretty good example of this. I'm only 24 but I can still remember going to the French market and that awesome toy store they used to have, and when the elephant bar was across the street. Wasn't the yucatan liquor stand over here too? I know the morning zoo used to frequent those places back when the area was still doing well.

We stopped by the Continent last night to kill sometime and look around and boy does it look like its gone down hill even by their standards. I have such fond memories of the area and it just looks like a ghost town. They made one big area a call center for Sears which was just bizarre looking.
The once great Loews Continent 9 which is now The Screens at the Continent is in very rough shape as well. For whatever reason they still had a Christmas tree up in the lobby and the box office was filled with trash. Most of the poster cases were broken in someway and the posters themselves were taped together pieces of printer paper.
This was one of the two poster cases that still had working neon.

Drove by the apartments last year after meeting a woman at a bus stop on Morse who claimed to have been living there for like, $180/mo. Completely odd vibe as described in the post above. Whomp whomp.

I never even heard of this place before. People are telling me it was killed when the Brewery District became popular. The nightlife at the Brewery District died off when the AD took over. I guess there will be a time when the AD is not the nightspot it is now.
