I found this amusing. Is this why there was a line at the Union for a few blocks yesterday?

I actually saw this video from the "hating the Union" thread.
Looks like a lot of fun, but so NOT what I'd call a flash mob - obviously planned, scheduled & rehearsed. There were a couple of events going on at the union yesterday, and a lot of "you WANT to be AT the union at 12:30" ... so essentially letting folks know to be there.
Still, nitpicking about what to call it - whatever - it's still awesome, I wish I'd been there in person to watch.
The big line at the Union yesterday was for Conan O'Brien tickets.
Flash mobs are generally planned and scheduled, and musical ones are definitely rehearsed.

Those were pretty clearly rehearsed, too. Awesomeness abounded nevertheless.
I must be a huge fan of cheese. Loved this!
i've had this song stuck in my head since i first saw this a couple hours ago... not a bad song to be stuck in one's head. :o)
neat!
Misleading title.....but very cute.
Oh the joy in choreographed dancing. I think honkey churches might want to implement more of this to increase membership amongst young folks.
Not a Flash Mob
Still Cool
Proof the Union Rocks
Food still blows
Lets invite Rad Dog to the Union
University of Michigan did it 6 weeks ago
It would be cool if everyone was dancing like this!

Haha! Me too!
Does NOT approve
That's a great video and it looks like the kids are having a ball, but....
it's not a flash mob.
A flash mob is usually more spontaneous and absurd. Usually participants get the information of where they have to be and act they must perform 30 - 60 minutes prior.

What gave it away?
The cameras
The students assembled to watch it
Bucky Buckeye
The Pres.
The sound system
or
was it the tape markers on the floor showing the dancers where to hit their spot?
I think both kinds count as flash mobs ... the musical ones obviously have to be rehearsed. I've seen the ones like the NYC subway freeze that were obviously more of the kind you're thinking of (a small in-group of organizers letting everyone else know the plan right before it happens). I think they could both fit in the same tent.
P.S. What causes those HTML snafus?

So you would consider the OSU band a 'flash mob'?
Mr. Wiki sez;
A flash mob (or flashmob)[1] is a large group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an unusual and pointless act for a brief time, then quickly disperse. The term flash mob is generally applied only to gatherings organized via telecommunications, social media, or viral emails. The term is generally not applied to events organized by public relations firms, protests, and publicity stunts.
I don't think this was "organized by a public relations firm" or a "protest," and I don't think it was any more of a "publicity stunt" than most flash mobs, though I admit the presence of Gee and Brutus probably had at least some publicity-oriented thinking behind it. (Then again, I really can almost picture Gee going along with something like this just for the sheer whimsy of it.)
I think one characteristic of a flash mob is that most onlookers don't know it's coming, which would rule out TBDBITL. (On the other hand, if a group of OSUMB members randomly showed up out of uniform and did a spontaneous musical number on the Oval, I might well count that.)
