During the past seven years, The Columbus Food & Wine Affair has served tastes from some of the best restaurants in town as well as poured hundreds of award winning wines during one great night. The evening of food and drink is for the benefit of local food related charities. This year, more courses are being added to the menu of offerings.

A series of events known as Food & Un-Wine is tapping into the world outside of wine. The focus remains on the food part of the affair, but mixes it up with other spirited beverages. Join us for the first of a series of Un-Wine pairings.

I have a super ridiculous cheap Sangria that I make:

Red Wine
Orange Juice
Ginger Ale

:) You can add fresh berries or orange slices if you want to, but it is a REALLY easy cheat. Not as good as real Sangria, but it does the job :)

I've served this at several events I've coordinated, and it always goes over well. I've done it without the brandy and with other types of red wine, and it's been fine.

I think a lot of sangria recipes are safe but I think the choice of wine can really kill it. Go with a cheap, fruit-forward wine with no oak, like a Vinho Verde or fruity Grenache/Garnacha.

Go with a cheap, fruit-forward wine....words I can live by from a wine expert. I wish I had a sangria recipe to share. Looks like the odds of winning these tickets is pretty good so far.

I've only made this once and it was quite a few years ago, but I liked Emeril Lagasse's take on sangria. I think we used triple sec. http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/emeril-lagasse/sangria-recipe4/index.html.

I did this recipe twice and it is a hit everytime.
1/2 cup brandy
1/4 cup lemon juice
1/3 cup frozen lemonade concentrate
1/3 cup orange juice
1 (750 milliliter) bottle dry red wine
1/2 cup triple sec
1 lemon, sliced into rounds
1 orange, sliced into rounds
1 lime, sliced into rounds
1/4 cup white sugar (optional)
8 maraschino cherries
2 cups carbonated water (optional)
Directions
1.In a large pitcher or bowl, mix together the brandy, lemon juice, lemonade concentrate, orange juice, red wine, triple sec, and sugar. Float slices of lemon, orange and lime, and maraschino cherries in the mixture. Refrigerate overnight for best flavor. For a fizzy sangria, add club soda just before serving.

I really like this recipe for sangria. Yum!

1 bottle red wine
1/4 Ã¢â‚¬â€œ 1/2 cup brandy
1 lime Ã¢â‚¬â€œ 1/2 sliced, 1/2 juiced
1 lemon Ã¢â‚¬â€œ 1/2 sliced, 1/2 juiced
1/2 Ã¢â‚¬â€œ 1 cup orange juice
1 orange sliced
1 apple, chopped
2 Ã¢â‚¬â€œ 4 tablespoons agave nectar

Pour the wine and brandy into a large pitcher. Add the citrus juices and fruit. Stir well and taste for sweetness. Add the agave nectar, and taste again. Add more agave if itÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s not sweet enough for you. Let the sangria chill overnight before serving.

Wow, thanks for some excellent sangia recipes. Anyone else want to share their favorite sangria recipe for an opportunity to win 2 tickets to Food and UnWine (Sangria) on August 15th. The best of both worlds:
Vodka+ white wine = White Peach Sangria

1 bottle dry white wine
3/4 cup peach flavored vodka
6 tablespoons frozen lemonade concentrate, thawed
1/4 cup white sugar
1 pound white peaches, pitted and sliced
3/4 cup seedless red grapes, halved
3/4 cup seedless green grapes, halved

Add all ingredients, stir thoroughly (make sure sugar is dissolved) and refrigerate overnight.

So delicious!

1 1/2 cups frozen passion fruit pulp, thawed
2 cups of pineapple juice
1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
2 cups lemon-lime soda
2 cups red wine (feel free to add more)
1 cup of white rum
1 6-ounce can mandarin oranges
Ice cubes

Combine all of the ingredients in a pitcher. Stir well. Chill overnight before serving. I like to double the recipe, it is too good to make just one batch!!

Made this for the Fourth of July. The items create a red and blue set of colors floating in a "white" drink!

1 750ml bottle fruity white wine
1/3 cup sugar
3/4 cup apricot-flavored brandy
6 tbsp thawed lemonade concentrate
1 cup sliced red grapes
1 cup whole strawberries
1 cup sliced purple (blue colored) grapes
1 cup blueberries

Mix together the white wine, sugar, brandy and lemonade until well mixed.

Add in the red grapes, strawberries, purple grapes and blueberries. Refrigerate overnight.

Serve the next day from a large pitcher filled with ice.

We can't speak for the Sangria Grand Prix, but Un-Wine at Barcelona will have Paella, some other Spanish treats, music and maybe some other surprises.

Looks like a good weekend to try out some of these recipes.

I received this recipe from a friend, and it always comes out fantastic:

2 large oranges, wash and slice one and juice the other
1 lemon, wash and slice
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 Triple Sec
750 mL bottle of red wine (Inexpensive wine works well. I do not spend more than $10 on a bottle for this recipe. Ravenswood cab is a good option.)

Gently stir sliced oranges and lemons in pitcher with sugar until juice dissolves most of the sugar.
Add orange juice, Triple Sec, and red wine and stir.
Refrigerate for at least 3 hours but it is best after 24 hours.
Serve over ice and enjoy!

The other recipes look mighty tasty too!
